funky perfection
There is nothing better than pure American Funk.
That bass line:

Can never get the scene from “That 70s Show” out of my head: Red and Kitty going at it. Haha
Oh I miss funk! And Chaka Khan and Rufus did it to perfection.
This is the shit right here hell yes
One of my favorites songs!
written by a little known guy named Stevie Wonder btw
groovy groovy funky funky
I love that this is 100% live!
Rufus was originally called “Ask Rufus” after an advice column in Mechanics Illustrated.
So groovy
Chaka!
Good friend of mine used to come into work singing this every day. I miss him.
Written by the master Stevie Wonder.
We saw Chaka nearly 40 years after this performance when she opened for Prince in 2011 (LA Forum show). She could still belt it out!
They don’t make em like they used to.
This was the good shit right here.
The Ewen McVicker version of this song is my girlfriend’s favourite song I didn’t even realise it was a cover

Perfection! This track is on my playlist.
*You ain’t got no kind of feeling inside
I got something that’ll sure ’nuff set your stuff on fire
You refuse to put anything before your pride, yeah
What I got, got will knock all your pride aside*
Song still slaps. Road trips in the car with pops.
Thank you, OP. Great memories.
Man…I remember seeing this on Midnight Special. It was usually on Friday or Saturday nights after the news. Soooo many budding artists were on that show.
Damn! Never saw this episode. I loved this song as a wee lad.
So good.
The Midnight Special & Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert were our MTV back then
& such a diverse selection of music each week; Rock, Funk, Country AND Western
this same episode, hosted by Anne Murray also had Country Joe McDonald, Golden Earring & The Wet Willy Band
Chaka Kahn!!
Rags to Rufus! The whole album is fire.
Yes, The Midnight Special, BBC Archives, and now the Don Kirshner Rock Concerts have been massively uploading content recently. Many performances had been ‘missing’ for decades (licensing issues?), but I think due to declining DVD physical media sales and declining archival box sets sales, the content owners are now uploading more and monetizing on youtb instead? Good stuff!
Chaka
Chaka Khan, let me rock you, let me rock you, Chaka Khan
My wife’s uncle is Kevin the keyboard, not shitting you.
Incredible song! Happily still being played at baseball stadiums during a play review. The good stuff lasts.
I’ve loved this song for years but I always get mixed up on where the downbeat is. Seems obvious during the chorus, but in the transition back to the verse I lose track.
Love this song & an added bonus is how gorgeous Chaka is
That talk box on the guitar is fire! And the heavy breathing is hot.
What a Culture we once had!!!
This is just OUTSTANDING!!! Cheers to the Good Folks
I saw Chaka Khan perform at the Jacksonville Jazzfest earlier this year. Her voice is still incredible.
I love everything about this. The drummers outfit is crazy. The bass players pants… they all look amazing.
First saw their performance of this in like 72. You have no idea what an effect she had on a 13 year old white boy! It was a revelation! Still kills me
Oh boy….No one is going to link the edm revival of this?!?!?!
