Active Archer drills
“OK, I’m going to show you some shield defense used in the past”
“Ahhhhhhh, We’re a caterpillar! Rwaaaaar”
“Jessica, caterpillars don’t go rwar”
“Caterpillars, advance shield wall on the enemy, show no mercy!”
This dodge ball game is getting out of hand.
I would have loved it if my schools had done things like this
Final fantasy 16’s looking great
Right…..For the students
ah testudo 101 class. i remember it like it was yesterday.
I see you laughing, but 5 turns from now this unit will be the one that defends against your Tanks and stops your invasion cold.
When we finally divert money from the military industrial complex to education
Do not! I repeat Do Not! Teach them the Roman Salute.
Is there something funny about the name…Bigus Dicus?
Someone’s getting ready to conquer Gaul
I don’t think that’s a history teacher, that’s a field trip tour guide. No teacher has the space to store 2-3 dozen child Roman shield and armor sets that will only be used once or twice a year. This is probably a field trip to the local Roman ruins where the tour guides cosplay with the kids as edutainment.
This is Chester Amphitheatre. I remember going on the same school trip when I was a kid about 20 years ago. They made us dress up like romans and walk from the Museum to the amphitheatre, I got so embarrassed because people were pointing and smiling and I thought they were making fun of us so I cried. Still a good day out though
“And that’s why you can’t end a sentence with a preposition.”
My hometown 🖤 I miss is so much. I remember doing the is as a child when the amiptheatre looked nothing like it does now and I’m so pleased it looks better for todays children learning about Roman Britain!
Also used to hang out there with my other goth friends…ah those were the days!
The Glory of Rome is forever anything else is temporary!
This looks like Chester, UK. It’s a Roman city tour with a tour guide in costume, not quite the teacher. Still fun though
Shield Wall!
Such a misleading title… THAT IS NOT THE TEACHER!
it’s part of a school trip to Chester and as part of the ‘Deva Experience’, a pretend centurion take them round the walls and Roman ruins to learn about history…
Also, jealous cos I was off sick that day.
Now to demonstrate the origin of the term “decimate.”
So awesome, only Asterix and Obelix are missing.
there is a great series of episode of hardcore history from dan carlin about the punic wars (roman republic vs carthage). to hook you in he starts the episode with the image of you and your best friends with some spears and shields on one side of the road and an elephant on the other side. and then he asks “how does it feel to fight an elephant in hand to hand combat?” really great way to shift the focus from boring dates and confusing names and lets you imagine how those poor souls must have felt.
Today class, we are goiong to learn about Decimation.
Man this reminds me so much of my high school history teacher. The entire Roman part of our curriculum was him doing stuff like this with us or reenacting battles in Rome Total War. Dude truly had a passion for what he did.
And this my Young British children , is what you do if an EMP goes off and we lose modern technology & electricity. After all, it is almost certain the Gælic tribes will get insubordinate again. It is their way.
Not a teacher, a paid guide in the wonderful city of Chester.
Pay them in salt
That’s in the Roman Amphitheatre in my hometown of Chester, United Kingdom or Deva Victrix as it was known in 78AD when it was home to the Legio XX Valeria Victrix
isn’t that just chester? there’s a school trip where you can go to the roman museum and march around chester in outfits
I had a history teacher in high school who would do similar things. Our school’s hallways formed a cross shape, and one day while teaching us about medieval military innovations, he had us carry our desks into the hall, form a barricade with desks right at the intersection of the cross, and then defend it with “pikes” (tipped with tennis balls) when the next class bell rang. It was one of the highlights of that school year. No one could get to their next class with the main intersection being blocked up, so it really became a kind of battle, with us inside trying to drive off the students who were attempting to dismantle the blockade and get to their next classes.
Of course, the teacher had cleared this with all of the other teachers beforehand, so no one was penalized for being late, and once everyone else figured out what was going on, they really got into the spirit of the thing, making heroic charges against our defense and lying on the floor once “killed”.
Chester, UK
My favorite moment in any Total War game was finally unlocking units with this ability and using them in combat in Rome: Total War
I am Uhtred son of Uhtred.
Suuure, this is fine. But when a teacher has the students mostly topless (male students), wearing warpaint and screaming as they charge, people start to call child services. /s
Our children flee the field of battle. This is a shameful display!
Romani ite domum!
AFAIK the “roof” shield formation is backwards and should instead have each row overlapping the rearward row. Those children would have crumbled and given up the flank to the Carthaginians.
Not very often I see my hometown on reddit. These tours have been going strong since I was their age. Quite often see the kids marching through the city
I’ve done this too, it’s pretty common in the UK
*”Ils sont fous ces Romains!”*
– Obelix
“Unfortunately due to recent cutbacks in the education budget, today we’re going to be learning about decimation”
“OK children, today we are going to teach you about decimation”
*hefts club*
“We are going to choose one out of every ten of you, and the others are going to take turns beating them with this club”
