oh shit! He looked so good and was riding so strong. This is terrible
Horrible, Horrible Stuff. So sad.
Omg, that’s terrible!
Another rider crashed in the same place and according to Strava he clocked 90km/h around the apex of the corner that he crashed.
Tour de Suisse is generally known for having some of the highest speeds on the racing calendar, with riders having reached more than 130km/h on the descents.
Pure tragedy. Cycling needs to have a big introspection about safety.
Putting finish lines on a descent is just completely reckless.
He was my favourite… I’m devastated.
Rest in Peace GINO 😢
Rest easy Gino 😭
So sad to lose someone so young. Speed kills.
Damn this hits diffrent. My brother is the same age as him. They used to cycle together and fight for Swiss youth championships. After devestating news like this I am kinda relieved my brother stopped pursuing going professional in his early 20s.
Oh he was found in water? So did he actually drown? They said the resuscitated him on scene but maybe he was brain dead? The other rider was just a little roughed up. Hard to believe one guy is just fine while the other died. The X factor water could explain that.
I’m speculating a lot here. Anyone have more info
Wow he was a baby
His lycra didn’t save him 🙁
Horrible news. Been following the race and the coverage didn’t show the crash but holy hell they were flying down that last descent.

Mäder went off the road and fell into a ravine. He was found unconscious in water, was revived and later died.
Terribly sad news. Way way way too young to pass away. RIP.
I love watching a committed rider descending a mountain but that’s purely selfish. It’s less about skill, more a case of who takes the most risk. They leave themselves zero margin for error – plus they’re wearing almost no meaningful protection and are mostly built like toothpicks – so it takes very little for there to be a disaster.
I honesty feel like speed limits on descents might be an option. As a former roadie of sorts I can tell you, once you get up to about 65 kph on a descent it’s pretty scary when you realise how vulnerable you are. Cannot imagine hitting 90 kph or whatever.
We lost a great person. Last year, every time Gino beat a rider in a stage, he’d donate a dollar to environmental charities. I think that ended up being around $5,000 of donations, and when you consider he isn’t making millions like guys in other sports, that’s a huge thing for him to have done. Not sure if he continued doing that this year.
Damn that’s sad. Unless you ever been to an event first hand it’s hard to imagine these bikes doing 60mph. It’s scary really
💔
oh fuck I remember seeing him at the giro or tour a few years ago. rip gino you were way too young to die.
Rest in Peace.
I myself am 26, with a kid. I can’t….I couldn’t imagine.
