Yup, this is an absolute classic masterpiece.
I have it for the N64. Was still fun in co-op last time I played. I’ve always wanted to try this and Rogue Spear’s online multiplayer though.
I remember playing online and there was a mod that had the terrorists running around in their underwear. It was hilarious. Damn that game was fun & the 1st game I played online.
I do miss the plan and execute gameplay, I wonder if it could make a comeback? Maybe as something closer to a Tactical RPG? Given a complex scenario plan, try, replan, and retry until it all comes together?
I miss the days when seeing tom Clancy’s name on the box meant you got a grounded in reality, tactical game 🙁
Now its all techno-magic and nanobot bullshit.
ah yes when my reflexes were still good enough for online games, played a lot of Rogue Spear and Raven Shield too
I remember reading the esrb rating with a friend back in school. We were like why is this game rated T when on the back the game said it contains blood and gore.
“You know. Rainbow used to be feared in my time. A covert unit of apex killers. And you turned it into the fucking Ice Capades.”
Jeezes Christ.. I loved this game, and was so disappointed by the new ones that became less R6 more like SWAT but mostly just a shooter.
First time I seen this game, at a Gateway computer store. It was loaded on a display model. I sat an played as long as I could, mouth open and drooling. I’m pretty sure there was a jump in tech about this time. There was for me.
Check this compilation out if you fancy revisiting classic R6

A real Tom Clancy game, unlike siege. What a classic!
I remember the grenade sounds being tossed in a room. You had NO time to react before the boom!
I remember having a demo of Rogue Spear back in my childhood. It was Operation Pandora Trigger, where you had to rescue hostages from a museum. I played that level thousands of times. Never had a clue about what to do in the planning stage. I just kept everyone outside and went on my own, until I was killed, and keep going alone again with the next operator, lol.
Many years later I got the full game and it was just absolutely perfect. Pandora Trigger and the level on the oil platform are forever in my memory.
I can’t believe Ubisoft refuses to develop a proper campaign with this franchise. Just make one in Siege without the BS or something, ffs!
Used to play this online on MPlayer then gamespy, and then Rogue Spear.
I remember strafing battles at hallways and doors, heartbeat sensor and third person peaking.
A true strategy/tactical masterpiece
No crossing, no mid.
R6, Rogue Spear, and Raven Shield were the last great tactical shooters of a generation. Those console r6 games were icky.
I have this on my pc, used to play religiously on n64 when I was a kid.
I got this pretty much day one. I even got a R6 cap that I found in my old childhood bedroom.
I always found it easiest to go light armor with the suppressed pistol and just sneak through the maps solo.
Rogue Spear took everything great about this game and perfected it.
Id love to revist and play this game but both the GOG and ubisoft ports dont work from last I checked
My first PC game. I played through the terrorist hunts religiously. The Urban Operations expansion added some cool maps. I remember downloading mods that were 3MB in size and took all night on my dial-up. Then Rogue Spear came out and did everything R6 did but better. I spent so much time on MSN Gaming zone and heavily used Roger Wilco for voice chat.
Competitive multiplayer was hilarious. Everyone camped corners in 3rd person and would quickly go back to 1st person and crab-walk around. Nades were actually useful in punishing good camping spots.
My conservative uncle used to make fun of me because he thought I said “Rainbow Sex.”
This game was hard as fuck in the later levels. My big bother and I would memorize the layouts and enemy locations until we could beat the entire game with zero casualties
I still remember how fucking tense multiplayer was.
“Sights are hot.”
_Take the shot._
“Tango Down.”
It’s me!
Ahh, the days when R6 was tactical. Unlike the shite R6 games now.
Rogue Spear was great. 10mm MP5 was so good.
The AI in that game was on point. You could plan out your mission and just let your teamates wreck everyone.
Ah yes the best rainbow six game, back when it was a pain just to beat the first level. You’d try and sneak, get 1 shot killed then that death music would play
I still play R6V2 terrorist hunt backwards compat with some OG buddies. Still slaps.
Hell yeah I bought that shit from Office Depot!
Back when Tom Clancy’s name wasnt being shat on by ubisoft.
My first computer game in the 90s. To this day I still remember the name of one character: Chaves Ding, hahahahah.
This was like Ready Or Not back in the day
Why can’t we have another game like this?
This was one of the first PC games I ever played. Had the itch for it again recently, and stumbled upon “rainbow six black ops”, which is a fan made combination of the first ~six games. Worth checking out.
