What is a phone book ?
a shop teacher i had did this in class once…will never forget it
They weren’t really that difficult to tear in half. The secret was to fan the pages as you tore so you aren’t really tearing the whole stack at once.
Isn’t there a technique to it where almost anyone can do it regardless of strength though?
It’s funny how times have changed. I see woman more ripped than her on the regular at my local YMCA.

Either she’s doing it the “hard way” from leaf to spine or this picture was taken after the event & she’s holding the parts together at the spine to “demonstrate”.
What’s a phonebook?
If she’s just raw tearing them in half, which can be done but actually requires you to be pretty strong, then good on her.
But if she’s doing it the way pretty much everyone who can do rhis does it, there’s a trick to essentially crease the book as you tear it. Makes it super easy to do as long as you’ve got halfway decent grip strength.

The trick is to bake it in the oven until all of the moisture has been completely removed. This causes the paper to be very brittle and the book can easily be torn. Edit: why would you downvote a post explaining how this is done?
Here in 2022, I can tear a phone book in half, too.
