Is this your grandparents’ place? To me that’s what grandparents’ places looked like, not where your friends lived.
My friend’s family owned a small motel and had that exact couch and matching chair and loveseat in the lobby. I never saw anything like it in an actual home though.
They just picked some of the best stuff from that era that belonged in a neighborhood like the ones the stories take place in. I have memories of far uglier stuff from my childhood lol. Early to mid 90s was filled with interesting fashion choices too lol.
There really was a lot of brown – especially in the early 80s.
That looks more like a 70’s refugee.
Brown shag carpeting that held the cigarette smell for years. And everyone’s grandma had that couch
Lol my grandma had this couch
My parents had that same couch
Omg you made me doubletake so hard this could have been me at my grandmother’s house. 😭
We had that couch the matching chair and wood paneling on the wall.
Definitely 70s leftovers.
Looks like my couch, except we had a Rubik’s cube.
I feel like literally everyone had this same couch, my family included
Ahhh yes the 80s when every piece of furniture told a magnificent story through it’s artwork.
I swear to God everyone had those couches and they weighed like 700lbs 😂
My mom had that couch in the family study room.
Jesus, did we all have that couch?
Those couches you could sink into. Wake up in another dimension possibly people sitting on you unknowingly.
How do I know that couch has dark stained wooden arms with half the screw hole plugs missing?
How did they make so many of those couches? Was that just the only pattern available? my parents in like 17 of our friends had the exact same one. So many questions
Why are you on my grandmother’s couch?
This is left over 70s in the 80s no?
I’m guessing 83/84 based on the USA half-shirt.
How did we all have the exact same couch? I’m pretty sure I have a pic of my dad holding baby me watching Star Trek on this very couch in like 87?..
This really fucks with me because I swear my family had that same couch in the 80s, but by the 90s it had vanished.
Edit: Then I see the comments and *everyone* had that couch. What the fuck is going on here?
I had this couch!
How is the manufacturer of this couch not the richest person on the planet, solely on sales from the 80’s?!
I had those same kids !! Lol.
We have all sat on this damn couch.
I feel like season 1 of Stranger Things did a pretty good job of showing the early 80s. Later seasons show the more fluorescent colors people think of because the later seasons are mid to late 80s.
A lot of people don’t realize that decades lead and lag sort of in an overlapping fashion.
In the mid 80s you were seeing the nascent grunge movement and swap to graphical computer interfaces while simultaneously looking at uranium glass and shag carpet from the 70s and being driven around in something with fake wood paneling.
If you didn’t have this couch, your friend did
Half shirts and short shorts, check. Been there.
Did everyone’s family have that couch?
I can feel that couch right now.
