You can actually play SWG pre CU update on community run servers. There are two different projects, that I know of, running similar code. One At [SWG Infinity](https://www.swginfinity.com/) and the other at [SWGEmu](https://www.swgemu.com/forums/content.php)
I don’t know much about either project but both seem active.
If BattleFront was combined with a top-of-the-line modern MMO, that could be the replacement SWG needs.
