Gorgeous! We called them banana spiders when I was young. People where I currently live will say they saw a huge spider and show me something smaller than a quarter. I tell them about these guys and they don’t believe me. Idk what they’d do if they saw a huntsman.
When I first moved to Texas, I walked straight into one of these strung up between two trees. Faceplanted right into the web and saw this monster scuttling away inches from my eyes. I didn’t *not* scream like a little girl.
Go to Gumbo Limbo if you want to see dozens of these along the trail
Ack!!! I’m gonna nope on outta here!!!! *running*
We used to canoe under their giant webs out in the Florida river islands. A few years ago one spun a Web across our back door. Surprised the fuck outta me when I went to let the dogs out!
We called these Writing Spiders. Always said to never look them in the eye or they’d write your name in their web and you’ll die lol
Thank you for the reminder to be grateful I no longer live in the south 😅
Long boi
I’ve seen hundreds of these, but I still stop and admire how beautiful they really are
It’s gorgeous!!!
Magnificent creature.
Woah are these natural to Florida? Thought they lived in Australia only.
Once, I was drinking with some friends out in the middle of nowhere and needed to take a piss. I walked off into some tall grass to do the deed. As I was relieving g myself my buddy turned his car headlights on. And two inches from my dick was a massive one of these. I got freaked out and ran back to the car with my dick still out. I still get shit for it to this day
Still require a 🍌
I’m from there but immigrated to Canada five years ago. When people ask me why I left the nice weather, I often bring up these.
I used to date a girl who lived deeep in the woods and had barn and whatnot. And everytime I’d drive up her driveway, literally hundreds of these guys right above my truck.
RIP OP
Grew up in soflo. Backyard had 2 palm trees about 10 yards from each other. In the summer, we’d have a literal army (~100) of these dudes make their home across the two trunks. Loved showing it off to the horror of anyone who visited lol
Good lord, I thought all the horrific shit like this was in Australia.
(I’m kidding, I know not EVERYTHING in Australia wants to kill you). Also, this is a cool looking spider.
Some people are so insanely tough that there isn’t even words to describe it.
Just looking at the spider would make me immediately turn in the opposite direction. OP here putting his hand next to it.
At least you’re not like that moron who decided to EAT ONE.

Ugh! I got a giant orb weaver in my apartment once when I lived close to Hong Kong. It was more than 20 years ago, but I still have nightmares about it. They’re great and intriguing when you see them outdoors from far away, but when they’re on your living room wall they’re terrifying.
Had plenty of these in South Carolina. My brother and I used them as target practice with water guns

You hike cool …. This vibe outdoor nature 😘
Cool
Back in the 90s as a young’n, I opened a well (in the middle of a field) by taking off a cement cover it had on top and saw one of those spiders (a big one, too) chilling on a web in mid-air of the well.
Needless to say, I immediately put the cover back on and took off, lol.
Floridian here, I’ve always called them a banana spider.
We always called them banana spiders. It was terrifying to come across these as a kid. They look even bigger when you’re smaller!
I found an article that calls them banana spiders also! https://beidler.audubon.org/news/species-spotlight-golden-silk-orb-weaver
