Was just listening to a video detailing some obscure Legend of Zelda speed run categories and heard phrases like “Zombie Hopping” “Stacking Storage” and “Back In time Glitch” discussed while Link is walking up the side of a mountain.
this trick actually has a 1 frame window so its extremely difficult to pull off and while it looks easy on screen the timing is has to be impeccable so hopefully i mana- okay so now on this next part of the run..
Thanks for reminding me how much I hate speedrunning based around glitches and breaking the game. I very much prefer speedrunning categories where they have to actually play the game as intended but fast.
I remember some years ago I was watching a youtube video of some guy speedrunning mario 64. He had all these complicated mathematical formulas based on actual kinematics. It was genuinely fascinating to watch.
If that had not been speedrunning a game, he probably could have solved world hunger.
I hate that they have it on sub mode only now. Really sucks because that takes off a ton of the community. And generally if I can’t chat I usually don’t wanna stay and watch.
Hey guys, my mom, dad, both grandmas, both grandpas, aunt, uncle, son, infant, dog, and mailman all died to cancer. Anyways keep up the great run of one of my favorite games!
Honestly can’t tell which comments here are tongue in cheek and which ones aren’t. Just wanted to say that I genuinely love GDQ. I love gaming, I love watching people be good at what they do, and I love charity. It combines all these things into an emotional, nerdy, fun filled week.
If you’ve never watched a GDQ before, I recommend paying attention to it this Saturday. There’s going to be some very fun runs, including a Mario relay race, and a blindfolded BotW run if donation goal is met.
Unfazed at final boss and killing them in seconds is soo true. especially for all the dark souls and such games. And im like over here and i cant even get past the tutorial for dark souls.
Me as fuck when I used to Stream speedrunning ninja gaiden. Mostly would complain about RNG but luckily only like 3 people at a time would watch so not that much pressure.
Lmao yeah I watch these gdq speedruns on games I’m currently playing or thinking of playing (did this with Metroid zero mission and remembered about a quarter of their tricks on certain parts) and it helps. Plus it’s fun to have some background noise when you’re working.
Watched a dude speed running Dark Souls who needed a specific random drop from a black knight as a specific point in the run to give him a slightly more powerful weapon that improves his speed elsewhere. Without it he would have to make up time elsewhere. He’d basically play the game flawlessly for 15 minutes ish then not get the drop and have to restart…and he’d do that over and over and over again for something that was like a 5% drop rate.
Its why I prefer to run No Major Glitches when I speed run, killing a run because a glitch didn’t work, especially one no one understands why it works, just doesn’t sit well with me. I’d rather fail due to me screwing something up or not anticipated an RNG of the AI.
But that said, I love watching glitch runs at least once, seeing what goes on is incredible sometimes
I’ve always personally felt those kind of speed runs are dumb AF. Yes we’re aware if you play the game unconventionally that you’ll get unconventionally faster runs but like what does it really mean in the end? If you’re skipping most content to get to a credits screen faster. 100% speedrun seems more reasonable in most cases.
Speedrunning is a strange pursuit. Speedrunners are people who spend the most time playing a specific game so that they can be the person who spends the least time playing that game.
“So RazorFalcon is going to run into the train here because the dying animation is faster than getting out of the car… Ooooh he just missed the train. He is going to have to use the backup strat of setting off a grenade in his car which still saves some frames from getting out of the car normally but we really wanted to get hit by that train.”
It’s why I prefer glitchless runs. No tricks, no gimmicks. You’re not breaking the game as fast as you can, you’re playing the game as fast as you can.
Which, in my mind, is what speedrunning is supposed to be.
Yeah, I used to enjoy speedruns for their amazing skill at playing the game.
Now I just kind of hate them because it usually just amounts to completely avoiding playing the game and just getting to the end with whatever sketchy phasing through the wall to avoid the whole level technique they have.
Forgot the classic “This trick looks simple but it’s actually super difficult so everyone clap after.”
>I would really prefer you to be quiet
One of the cooler posts I’ve seen on this sub in a while. Unique and high effort

Cancer sucks butt!
“That’s never happened before”
Put this donation to Save the Animals!
Hey guys my son just died, let’s get that bonus game incentive.
And yet I’ll watch these allllllllllllllll night if I start.

And when they beat a world record, the crowd goes wild but the runner has nearly no reaction.
Just need that space particle to hit my game cartridge just right to get the skip
I was super excited a few years back to see a fallout speed run until i saw it was like 7 minutes or something.
Thanks for reminding me how much I hate speedrunning based around glitches and breaking the game. I very much prefer speedrunning categories where they have to actually play the game as intended but fast.
The og half life speedruns were amazing.

My friends and I have an inside joke about some of the crazy skips speedrunners do, and how some of them have special names announcers say.
In reference to some guy playing Donkey Kong Country 3, we created our own verb applicable to any skip or glitch: “blue monkey skip”
“Runs dead”

this isnt a starter pack this is a premium bundle

Or just mastery over simple things but often that’s not very entertaining
Dumb question, but what is the game shown in the bottom right? I’m guessing a Souls game but I wasn’t sure
Now, this one trick only works with patch 1.3.7. It didn’t work in 1.2.5, but the next patch introduced this glitch. And patch 1.4.1 fixed it.
HYYYYYPE
Two Worlds speedrun was the best to watch.
You missed the “this only works on the [Asian localization] version of the game/console”
“We’re playing this game in Italian because the dialogue is 0.3% faster”
PEPSI MAAAAAAAN !!!
I loved that episode of GDQ

The good old days of GDQ with all the 120 star runs.
You’re speaking like these are clichés, but most of this stuff is demanded by the ways games are designed if you’re gonna speedrun them with exploits.
I’m generally not a fan of watching speedruns. GDQ was novel many years ago, but its a shell of its former self.

This glitch is very hard to make but it saves 7 seconds
*did not*
So we better restart now and try again

GDQ has become fairly cringe but hating on the entire speed running community because this is your only gateway into it is so dumb
Everyone donate to Doctors Without Brothers
Don’t forget pronouns!
This one is frame perfect.

You’re missing the donator memes “HONK!” “ORB” etc.
