Internet Historian educated me briefly about this topic.
And while I’ve never played it, I think it was a fine comeback for a game, for the devs/teams to pursue and continue to improve it.
IDK. Seems still pretty historic. A true comeback. During the pandemic my friends and I picked it. It was incredible to us. And it’s only advanced since then with FREE updates that are massive. The first warp jump… man it gave me chills and in VR its such a treat. The company seems kind of great and unique.
Also just a fun side story about Hello Games : https://www.theguardian.com/games/2022/jan/28/broke-our-hearts-boy-with-autism-inspires-relaunch-of-popular-game
Was just playing this yesterday.
Bravo to the team for refusing to just let it slide. The picked up the proverbial ball and ran with it… and ran and ran and ran. Good on them.
I can respect what they did in the last years to actually make good on the promises. They didn’t take the millions and ran, they rook that money and made the product they originally promised.
However, what went down back then was still a giant shitshow and the amount of lies the guy threw around was something to behold.
Greatest comeback in gaming history imagine if every game company understood they under delivered and tried their best to make it right, all without charging anything. Epic.
If this was where the story ended true. But it was only mid point for those guys and I think it’s one of the best come back stories ever.
If No Man’s Sky and Cyberpunk 2077 have taught me something is that broken/incomplete games can eventually deliver.
Doesn’t excuse the higher ups for pushing incomplete shit out of the door just for the money, neither the burnout of the poor people working extra hours to make it work, but still…
Photos taken moments before disaster
Game made the biggest come back ever… wdym OP
So much soy
babe, wake up. new wojack template just dropped
What’s up with all the “soy” comments in here? I’m out of the loop apparently
When I first bought it on release day, I played on PC, it was horrible. It felt like an alpha build. Immediately refunded it and didn’t look back into it until about a year ago. Bought it again on sale and it definitely is 1000x better. The devs really put work in.
I feel an irrational anger when I see dudes making that face
Why do all of these guys look like the guy (holding the disc) at different stages of his life in different points points of beard growth…
Soooo consensus is thar if I didn’t play this at launch because of lackluster reviews, it’s worth getting now on PS5 due to improvements since then?
Ah yes, the pre beta-alpha, v. -3.5th edition
the dude drinking knew what was up.
so much soy facing
Literally the Soyjack meme.
I gave this a hard passon initial release. Bought it on sale for30 bucks off steam a few months ago. Been having a blast just flying around. The new user experience is WAY better than it was.
I still have yet to find dinosaurs, but other than that, I cannot complain.
This should get posted to wholesome memes for how it ended up ❤️
Bro the two dudes on the left are the spitting image of the soyjack open mouth
The moment the greatest lie in video gaming was told. But also the moment the greatest comeback story started.
I honestly feel like the people, who aren’t affected by this anymore, have no logical reason to hold onto the hate. It was a lie. WAS. It isn’t anymore. If someone puts the effort to change, I believe they deserve a second chance.
Yeah but remember when they flat out lied about features that weren’t even in the game
One of the biggest redemption stories in gaming history. Utmost respect to the team.
So much soy😂
The Soylent Grin
Guys, please think about this the next time someone tells you a game needs microtransactions, ads, seasonpasses etc to be supported. You can support most games for years with just the sales (if your CEO doesn’t pocket that as a bonus).
They gave out all of their dlc’s for free due to their bad launch. I think they made up for it
I have to be fully fair here man. One of a handful of companies that refused to let it die. They worked their way back since launch. And delivered on everything. It’s a good game these days. Miles ahead of the one I got at launch. Have to give them credit where it’s due.
One of the very few successful comebacks in the industry. It just makes me think about how much trouble they could have avoided if they didn’t sell such a big lie in the beginning.
Hello games? Ain’t they the team who made Joe danger?
They could have done what fallout 77 did with its increasingly bad updates and pay to win mechanics but instead they sat back down and got to work to make a game we could all love
This really is the dumbest fucking karmafarm sub on this hellsite.
Honestly this is the false victory of the second act of a legendary story. They’d been through so much just to get to this point, even if they knew the reception would be poor, you can’t blame them for being so hyped to have it “completed”.
Then the final boss, Internet, knocked their shit sideways, leaving them in an almost insurmountably difficult position that most would succumb to, only to eventually turn it around and become the heroes they thought they were in the past.
It’s a legacy.
I started playing this a couple months ago, and it is still one of my favorite games for when i just want to relax and chill. I heard that it was really bad at launch, so I’m glad they didn’t give up on it. Thanks, Hello Games.
I bought the game later when it was 🔥
