  • I’ve got about 4 GAME stores within a 10 mile radius of where I live. Stores are definitely smaller than they used to be (and seems to sell more merch than games) but they’re definitely still around.

  • They’ve all but disappeared, losing GAME stores and instead finding them as half-assed concessions in Sports Direct or another of Mike Ashley’s collection of shops.

I thought they’d stopped selling PC games in store completely. Just a stand of “turn your pocket money into game credit” cards for Roblox, Fortnite and similar.

  • Yeah, you’re wrong. Of course, it would depend on multiple factors but taking a loan to put up ads can make sense. You can get more sales in the long term because of those ads. Those extra sales may be enough to cover the ad cost and interest (mind you, your interest will be higher) and even pay off your rent.

This is all risk. You may end up spending more than you actually make and be in a worse spot. You can also find a way to reduce costs without decreasing sales. Or you can do a combination of both.

Just saying, just because you’re in debt, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t spend.

  • GAME mostly sells gaming-themed t-shirts and Funko Pops, with a nice side-line in used smartphones. They still have boxed games on shelves – but with the continued rise of digital distribution (particularly noteworthy being the PS5 Digital Edition with no optical drive), they don’t have long left before they become yet another grave in the cemetery that is the UK high street.

These days, I’m more likely to shop at CEX.
