“Joey” is probably the BEST song ever written about a woman in love with a horrible, undeserving ,self destructive man. the lyrics are so evocative…they imply a larger narrative..something worthy of a screenplay or a short story.
Bought their debut back in ‘86 while I was living in the Mojave, had never heard of them but wore the hell out of that cassette – “Over Your Shoulder”, “Still in Hollywood”, “Dance Along the Edge”, “True”, “Your Haunted Head”, “Song for Kim”, what a killer album!
Not only was she super hot she also has an amazing voice. She did a collaboration album with one of the guys from Wall of Voodoo called Pretty and Twisted, really good album also she did a song on No Talking Just Head called Damage I Have Done. It’s all on the YouTube’s
I saw her with The Heads, which is a great album if you haven’t heard it. It’s The Talking Heads, without Dave, and every song has a guest lead singer. Michael Hutchence and Debbie Harry etc. So they toured and Johnette sang and it was amazing. The music was top and her voice was a living thing that blew me away.
One thing (among many) I found interesting about CB was that the songs they covered could have easily been written by her and Jim. Like, I’m running to Wikipedia every time I hear a song come up on shuffle to confirm if they wrote it because I just can’t tell.
Very unique as far as I can recall. Other bands who cover songs; they often REALLY sound like a cover.
Underrated band.
badass.

I would be a ” Ghost of a Texas Ladies Man”
They were my first concert. Fox Theatre in Portland, Oregon 1991. Absolutely amazing.
She had an incredibly powerful voice. “Heal it up” showcases it really well.
Concrete Blond was criminally underrated.
This is the next crusade for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. We need to rally and get this great group in.
Awesome post! Love that band.
Caroline is such a great song!
Tomorrow Wendy is going to die. Great song. Actually all their songs are pretty great, Concrete Blonde is underrated as fuck.
‘Still In Hollywood’ is still such an awesome song, I remember first hearing it on the soundtrack to this alien killer horror movie called The Hidden
And bassist!
Their cover of “everybody knows” is the definitive cover of everybody knows.
Saw her in San Francisco maybe 10 years ago? Blown away by her voice. Great show.
Such an amazing voice!!! Still in Hollywood is one of my all time favorite albums.😍👏😍
Absolutely love her voice!
I saw them in 1993/4 in Athens, GA and they were fantastic! Good old rock music!
Another great song by CB is *God is a Bullet*. Their video on YouTube really highlights the band at their best.

I had Lullabye stuck in my head earlier. This was kind of a perfect album.
I’ve loved concrete blonde since high school. Just turned 46, and now my kids and the guys who work for me (masons), are all fans.
God is a bullet have mercy on us everyone
Bloodletting is one of my favorite albums.

Their cover of ‘Everbody Knows’ is simply amazing.

“Bloodletting” is my absolute favorite from them. I play it for people and they react like “How have I never heard this before?”
Her raspy tones were so perfectly matched to Concrete Blonde songs and James Mankey’s guitar playing. Bloodletting is an A+ front to back.

She was my original crush when I was a kid ❤️
My mom had “Bloodletting” and we played the hell out of that thing when I was growing up. Soooo many good songs!
Mentioning Concrete Blonde in old school cool is really making me feel old.
Have had a several-decade-long crush on her in totality: bassist, singer, lyricist and frankly I think she’s hot
Listening to The Vampire Song while riding around New Orleans is always an enjoyable experience
