This is just one more thing in a long list of things that is baffling about the US pharmaceutical industry. Why should you, the patient, ever be the one to ask for a type of medication? The doctor’s job is to diagnose your condition and prescribe the correct treatment according to the latest studies and findings. If the doctor cannot do that, they don’t deserve to be practicing.
The other thing is the absence of universal healthcare. But I’m sure you guys already know how abysmal the US is in relation to the rest of the world in that respect.
I absolutely hate the type of commercial where they say ” ask your Doctor if _ insert product name here_ is right for you”.
If I don’t have a fucking clue what your medication is for, I sure as fuck won’t be asking about it!
Commercials are supposed to INFORM the consumer, not confuse…
TV voiceover: side effects may include hair loss, diarrhea, more diarrhea, constipation, increased blood pressure, decreased blood pressure, heart attacks, cyanide poisoning, insomnia, drowsiness, suicidal thoughts, depression, pancreatitis, loss of pancreas, blood thinning, extreme blood clotting, did I say diarrhea?, death, and more death. Call your doctor if you experience one or all of these symptoms.
Doctor: You have >insert health condition here< and this medication will help with that.
Patient at the pharmacy: “My doctor says I need this medication.”
Pharmacist: “Ok, let’s send it to your insurance company…”
Insurance Company: “You don’t need that! You better check with your doctor.”
Source: I was a psychiatric coordinator for years trying to help people get out of severe mental health crisis. It’s absolutely criminal that the insurance companies can “deny” anything that a doctor sends through.
This has got to be stopped. I don’t watch that much television these days except for live sports, but every commercial break is filled with drug advertisements. Usually one right after another.
There is no test to determine if a patient might be allergic to Naxopraxophil, so do not take Naxopraxophil if you are allergic to Naxopraxophil because anaphylaxis is deadly.
Then the doctor gives him the medication and he becomes addicted to it, ruins all his relationships including family. His doctor eventually stops filling the prescription and he turns to the streets for something equivalent or stronger. He gets hooked on fentanyl laced pills, loses everything, and eventually gets pills with more fent than usual. At the same point, he feels like he needs one more than usual and well, the end.
I hate drug commercials so fucking much. Advertise me literally anything else.
“Do you *suffer* from this slightly uncomfortable condition? Try our brand new drug which has WAY WORSE SIDE EFFECTS (oh yeah it might kill you or leave you with a permanent issue at best)”
You left out the part where the threaten to lodge a complaint or leave a bad review if the doctor does not comply
I want to make an ad that says “Shut up and let your doctor prescribe whatever they see necessary based on their professional expertise.”
Advertising drugs in my country is illegal
Side effects include nausea, vomiting, anger, suicidal thoughts, arousal, erection, ejaculation, and calmness … in that order
The tv told me too!

Yeah, I can’t fathom why meds are marketed to the patient. Shouldn’t your Doc be the one the figure that out?
Anyone old, like me, will remember the days when attorneys and manufacturers of prescription drugs could not advertise in the USA.
I think it was better that way. I know in particularly that doctors ***hate it*** when patients show up and tell them what drugs they want to take…

He didn’t ask….
Not since Head-On have I been so pressured to buy a medication without being told what ailment it’s supposed to treat.
“Side effects include”…..then they list horrific symptoms for like five minutes!
If i had a dollar for every pharmaceutical ad I’ve seen that in no way tells me what its actually for, i could actually afford healthcare
Drug advertisements in America
*people on tv smiling and happy*

My favorite is “don’t take naxopraxophil if you are allergic to naxopraxophil.” You don’t say…
In future those ads will be looked at the same way we look at cigarette commercials from the 60s
Always weird to see streams of American TV with these ads. Like something from a cyberpunk dystopia.
That’s how you ask? Rude
*Discontinue use if death occurs*
*”Hello, I’m Mr. Burns.”*
*”Okay, what’s your first name Mr. Burns?”*
*”I don’t know!”*

“Tell your doctor if you have heart problems.” I’m pretty sure my doctor told ME about that.
This is such an Americanism, it is very bizarre, doctors prescribe medicines appropriate and efficacious, adverts have no place in medicine.
As a Brit, i am always confounded by US medication ads. Especially since you have to pay out the nose for them.

Just fucking stop.

Fuck ALL THE WAY OFF WITH THAT BS
“Ask your doctor if unsolicited medical advice from a television commercial is right for you.”
