Someone recently referenced needing a cone of silence to say something in confidence. I was like, no, the joke was the cone of silence *didn’t* work. Not only couldn’t Max and the Chief hear each other, but everyone else could hear them!
Apparently scientists developed an entirely wireless phone system for this shoe prototype in 1965 but when focus groups unanimously thought the idea of putting a shoe to their ear was ridiculous they canned the whole idea instead of repurposing the wireless technology.
I started a Microsoft contract in the early 2000s, and the path to the security office to get my badge was as complex and silly as the opening of the show. Doors, doors, doors and lines on the floors.
To this day, I’m still upset that my parents didn’t tell me it was supposed to be a comedy until years later. 7 year old me thought those gadgets were awesome and those spies were saving the world like Honest to God American Heroes.
And has more sole than any regular smartphone.
Nothing like shoving a day’s worth of grime into your ears to get an infection. Totally worth it tho
