That was spectacularly horrific.
This is probably the best portrayal of the devil in any form of media ever.
This is based on Mark Twain’s story *The Mysterious Stranger.*
It’s very cynical, sad, and disturbing. It’s also very worth reading.
Be aware, he rewrote the book a couple of times, so there are a few different versions floating around. *No. 44, the Mysterious Stranger* is the longest version and the most impactful, I think.

Really cool. Thanks for sharing
I watched a lot of weird stuff like this growing up. We need more of it.
Amazingly subtle facial expressions.
Why does Albert Einstein bring a bunch of kids to Satan?
The satan face reminds me of kenneth copland
Man, this clip has been going continuously viral every so often for around 18 years at this point. Check out clips from Will Vinton’s other claymation shorts on YouTube if you like this animation style.
There was also a documentary released about him called ClayDream about the history of his studio, and how Phil Knight (owner of Nike) and his son Travis Knight (director of Kubo & the Two Strings) eventually screwed Vinton out of his own company, which ended up turning into Laika.
Youtuber Diamanda Hagan reviewed this movie a while ago, her segment on the whole Mysterious Stranger is super interesting. [She made a separate video just for this purpose](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0HKpmq45JE&ab_channel=DiamandaHagan).
TLDW: Satan, in this instance, is not meant to be the Devil. Rather he’s God, but viewed and judged not as an all loving deity, but the cruel and sadistic monster he really is. God doing evil deeds can’t be evil, but as Satan here says “I can do no wrong, for I do not know what it is.”
We need more of the weird and unsettling stuff, even for younger audiences. Things like Time Bandits, Liquid TV, and the super weird Garfield book Garfield: His 9 Lives. Made childhood a bit more magical for me.
