The most curious thing to me is that while to foreigners these romans sound like having italian accent, indeed they actually sound exactly like people in Rome talk nowadays.
I’m studying history to become a teacher. Used this clip as part of my lessons about the Romans. Wanted students to see interactions between Rome and Germanics and figure out where things went.
It was lovely to see them figure out so much subtext from such a short clip. A testament to the show as well I guess.
Latin has seen a resurgence. I’m interested myself as someone of Italian heritage but there are a lot of people out there who speak Latin at the native level and have even adapted it for modern use. I run a Latin group on Facebook and it probably grows by about 75 users a week. There has been far more interest than I anticipated.
Spoken latin was different from written Latin. It’s an absolute guess what they actually spoke. Same way, people didnt actually converse like Shakespeare wrote.
Is this show good? I so want it to be
Good church Latin. Without british accent. Very good.
Good Latin analysis here: https://youtu.be/K7uBUCZgpw8
I guess I shouldn’t be surprised how Italian it sounds…
But the Germans speak sharp, modern actor’s German😂
If he tries speaking Latin, he better remember to [conjugate the verb. ](https://youtu.be/DdqXT9k-050)

Is this show worth watching?
What happens when the barbarians don’t have a translator?

Romanes eunt domus?
Some people called Roman they go to the ‘ouse?!
Ipsum Lorem…I know latin too.
“It’s all Greek to me”…
it’s hard enough to write the bloody thing. Is, ea, id innit.
Incorrect, these aren’t actually Romans. Romans died out in the 60’s
Whaaaaat. Ok, I’m watching this show.
It’s crazy to think they had cameras back then
Why are the horses so vocal as the Romans are riding in?
I don’t know latin or italian.
I really thought they had put italians talking in modern italian and thought it was a cool idea to juxtapose with modern german lol
Definitely not Sanskrit.
Loved when history channels Vikings actors speak old Norse This stuff is so neat
this show was the tits… need to see if it’s canceled or what..
Shouldn’t the horses be like pony sized?

They have stirrups? Shame, weren’t those invented quite later?
Cant wait for the sequel
Those barbarians are way too hot
But roman citizens never spoke Latin- they spoke Greek to distinguish themselves from the plebs
Lot better than those god damn English accents they usually show us.
They need to make a follow up to this show that tells the story of Germanicus and the aftermath.
whats up with the roman hype-man sporting the tiger fleece? what is this guys role in the roman army?
And then the others speaking in modern German, so stupid.
taxation with the threat of violence. Not much has changed.
This show is pretty good.
>Futu-te
I’m glad this word remained the same in Romanian after 2000 years.
>Die spinnen, die Römer!
Curious to know how that “American” three hand gesture sits, with those Germans.
