My friends and I sooooooo wanted to be her! Many Halloween costumes ensued

When I was a kid…kids used to call me “Leather,” because I guess they thought I looked like her. There’s no way, though. I looked like a tiny Tom Hanks. The 70s were so cruel to little girls.

Sometimes her songs had some mild swear words in them, we thought that she so tough and cool, my friend would have her LP records up so loud on the old HiFi system it cracked the plaster on his bedroom wall.
Everything they called ‘rock’ was disc-o’d the hell out of.
