Be polite. Be a decent human being. But, man, I hate all this fake bonhomie. Even if you’re really good at pretending I know you don’t give a shit about me and that makes it worse. If you give me my product or service properly and say ‘your welcome’ or nod your head in acknowledgement – that’s enough for me. I don’t expect you to imagine I’m the beez kneez for some reason. All this fakery and counterfeit emotion out there in the world when, now more than ever, people need to connect honestly. This kind of thing is connected to other forms of falsity too. Your conspiracy worldview. Your consent manufacturing media narrative. Your astroturfing. Bots. The list goes on.
To be clear – I don’t blame the workers who are given these instructions. I blame a system that comes up with these kinds of ideas and produces nightmarish cultural objects like the above vid.
