A lot of people dislike it because of its high difficulty, but this game has got to be my favourite Sci-Fi game.

Believe me, it’s not “underrated”. It got tons of high praise at release, people couldn’t stop saying enough good things about it, that’s the literal opposite of underrated.
Not underrated just niche. Two different things.
One of the most commonly recommended games I’ve seen for people getting their PS5 over the holidays. I definitely wouldn’t say it’s underrated.
The games has great reviews and good sales, it’s just not mainstream being a roguelite game, i don’t like the genre either but i recognise it is a great games for those who like this kind of gameplay
Yes that critically acclaimed game was definitely underrated.
No it’s not, it’s properly rated. Great game and people love it.
If anything, it was overrated. Not to say that it was bad, but it got more praise than it was due because it was literally the ONLY real PS5 exclusive outside of Demon’s Souls for a good long time. It was a solid 7 or 8 (depending on your tolerance for roguelike gameplay) and people were calling it a 10/10.
great game, that 5th biome though…
I really liked it, then got on a several hour run where I got towards the end of the game before dying, and never want to touch it again. There just isn’t enough progression between deaths imo.
If it had similar mechanics without being a Roguelike I think I would have liked it a lot more.
Eeeehhhhhh…
I really enjoyed it but I’m really terrible at aiming with a controller and it was very difficult for me. Gave up after a few hours.
I love to play it coop.
My main problem with it is that the loot is kinda basic and a low amount of it.
I wish it had more interesting things. Love the setting and the gameplay but I think the loot hurts the game. Also the low amount of weapons.
I wasn’t a fan of the difficulty scaling. Bosses were too easy, killed them all on the first time fighting them. Mini-bosses can be bullshit. Had one spawn in a tiny room that would constantly spawn rings of energy where there was basically no where in the room you could stand and not take dmg.
Couldn’t vibe with it at all, uninstalled after the first boss. Heard great things about it but hey
Metacritic: 86%.
Redditor: What an underrated game
This game is amazing. I never played a bullet hell game and this made me a huge fan of it. Difficulty curve is there but becomes less and less as you improve. Well…if you improve lol, if you don’t adapt and learn then game is probably rough for you.
Overall I told everyone I knew to buy this game and play it. Was Best game on ps5 for awhile imo.
what even is returnal…
I came for the gameplay, I stayed for the lore
Sorry your console exclusive isnt talked about much lol if only there was a way
Underrated -> underestimate the extent, value, or importance of (someone or something).
Something I just Liked -> r/gaming definition of Underrated
Is his head the twisty thing you use to keep your bread fresh?
I think that people lost the knowledge of the meaning of “underrated”
Returnal is quite a unique game, its Beksinski inspired world and its haunting ambience alone give me goosebumps… that is not something I say often.
Their previous game, Nex Machina, is the underrated one.
It’s a highly recommended game, not underrated. The PC port really makes it shine, playing at 120+ FPS with keyboard and mouse controls.
Okay guys, most of you are saying it’s not underrated because it’s critically acclaimed. Maybe I worded it wrong then. What I mean is it’s not talked about as much as I thought it would. And a lot of talk I hear is dislike because it is too hard. Either way, I worded it wrong
Wow! The point of hard-core gaming is to have a challenge. What’s the platform?
Don’t have a PS5 and thought it looked like a good game. Saw it got ported to PC but after some research, the roguelike aspect is a big turn off for me.
Some like it some don’t. I tried it on PC, got pretty far with bosses and gear but still wasn’t it for me. Uninstalled it. Difficulty is not a thing for me as I play souls games, fps, pretty much all genre. But roguelike games is one of them I’m not too big on, only a few I thoroughly enjoyed like Hades.
I agree… phenomenal game
I was very hyped for the game on release, but Im never on board with exclusive game deal. So I waited for it to come to PC, and now, im not paying full price for a game that came out 2 years ago.
Ah yes. The underrated Best Action Game of the Year award winning Returnal. And a bunch of BAFTA awards, too.
It is an incredible game.
god im so sick of people calling stuff “underrated”
I love it a lot.
First and only game I ever platniumed.
Not it’s not. Everybody is praising it.
All these angry souls whipping out their dictionaries when they damn well know OP just wants to have a conversation about a game they enjoy.
Undersold – yes, underrated def not
I really need to give this a try
Sick fuckin game
Big fan of roguelites. Picked this up on pc last week because of how highly “rated” it was. People who don’t like the repetition/ difficulty are playing the wrong genre. Found it a weird choice for PS5s first big exclusive, but I’m enjoying the hell out of it!
If only I had a ps5
People really need to understand the difference between and definition of underrated and underappreciated
