Holy shit. Maybe that’s it. They are a rock band, a performance, and they are fun and entertaining. They are good at that.
It’s almost like comparing them to Bach, Mozart, Slash, Clapton, Cohen, and Downie is unfair. It’s several different games, and music nerds and hipster assholes can’t seem to understand that. Or that people can have different tastes in music. Don’t get me wrong, I love Cohen, Downie, and I can even appreciate the art of classical music, but I have exactly ZERO classical titles on my hard drive.
You can have your cutting edge, technically proficient, soul-rending lyrical masterpieces that make you weepy and sleepy. I’m going to listen to guitar riffs and songs about eating ass and blow jobs.

Only reason to watch “Once Upon A Deadpool” is to watch these scenes. Especially the scene where Deadpool keeps censoring what Fred is saying which changes what you think he is saying.
I used to work at a place where Michael Kroger always came in and I got on good terms with him and got to actually ask him about why Nickelback is hated so much. His take on it was that they made good music that could be played on any radio which made them grow really fast, at the time there is a lot of music with cussing and other topics that wouldn’t allow them to be played on the radio as much as Nickelback. Michael thought that they got a lot of hate because they were just played so much over the other people at the time.
Its the same thing with Justin Bieber. He may not be my cup of tea, but Nickelback and Bieber have fuckin talent and have sold millions of songs in sold out arena with that talent. So you can shove that opinion where the sun dont shine.

To me Nickleback (and Imagine Dragons these days) get a one-sided reputation. They are perceived as samey, formulaic with not much variation because the songs that got played to death on radios were ones that did sound samey and were cherry picked *because* that sound was popular, but there is actually a good amount of variety if you ever actually listened to the albums. Once a song/style of song goes super popular radio stations are more likely to play more songs like that from the artists so it goes round in circles.
If Everyone Cared and Photograph have a pretty different vibe to Animals and Next Contestant and they are on the same album.
