Ray Charles’s rendition of “Georgia on My Mind” a year before his refusal to perform in a segregated concert in 1961 led to him being penalized by the State of Georgia upon being sued. In 1979, State of Georgia issued a formal apology and designated his version as the official state song.

Anytime I listen to Old Ray’s rendition, it’s like nothing else in the world. I have never been to Georgia, yet it feels like home calling to me when I hear Ray.
Rest in Peace, Old Soul.
No one put more genuine heart and soul into their art.
Still one of my favorite musical artists ever. He’s was gifted with such an extraordinary amount of passion, talent, and presence, yet delivers every lyric effortlessly cool. I could watch his performances all day. And have.
Native Georgian and I love this song. If I was up really late I used to turn to GPBS and watch the sign off which showed scenes across the state accompanied with this song. Beautiful and peaceful
Amen!!!!
Fuck Georgia. That state hasn’t changed. Look at your politics right now. Fuck that state.
Watching this makes me realize how good Jamie Foxx was in Ray.
Charles never saw people as black or white…come to think of it…ah, nevermind.
God damn. Ray Charles is an icon.
This is absolutely nostalgic!
