I’m in my forties and I’m so fucking tired of the Presleys and other icons of the baby-boomers.
It’s all overexposed and oversaturated in our culture. It’s tiresome and uninteresting. Let us grow and move on as a culture already. There are so many other stories to tell.
* On September 13, 1959, fourteen year old Priscilla Beaulieu met 24-year old Elvis Presley at a party, at his home in Bad Nauheim, Germany, which he had rented during his military service.[12] Her presence is said to have made Elvis act like an “awkward, embarrassed” boy-next-door
Movie looks dark and I wonder if they’ll explicitly call Elvis a pedophile.
I wonder if Cailee Spaeny will get an oscar nomination. She already won the Volpi Cup for best lead actress. It would be cool to see her get nominated for Priscilla a yr after Austin Butler got nominated for Elvis.
A lot of the Oscar buzz has been about Oppenheimer, Killer of The Flower Moon, Barbie, Poor Things, May December, and The Killer. But I hardly hear anybody mention Priscilla. I feel like its a dark horse candidate to nab a couple of nominations this upcoming oscars.
My philosophy professor once told us that everyone talks about greatness of Buddha, but no one talks about the wife he left behind. I think this movie is going to take a similar approach
This looks interesting. Trailer took quite a dark turn half way. I like Sofia Coppola so I am interested to see what she offers with this movie. I personally thought Elvis was very mid.
Does it? 40 years ago my mother told me about Elvis taking this girl from her family and promising not to have sex with her until she was of age, and I said, “Ew. Nobody believed that, did they?”
And she, who grew up liking Elvis as a teen paused a moment as if she was going to argue, then, I think, replayed back what she said, and then said, “It was a more innocent time.”
Meaning people believed he kept his promise.
So if I, a tween when I first heard this story, saw right through it, I find it hard to believe this isn’t the sole narrative of Elvis pursuing a 14 year old.
Wait until racist white boomers find out that not only was he a statutory rapist and serial cheater, but he also stole all his most famous music from black people too!
I admire A24 as a brand for their daring and artful approach to their output. It’s practically a stamp of quality. However when I saw Sofia Coppola’s involvement I was immediately turned off. There are so many fascinating topics that aren’t “rich white people problems” but I’ll be damned if SC is going work with anything theme. Write what you know I suppose.
Sofia Coppola seems to be thriving (if not pressing) with the “bird in a cage” theme: Marie Antoinette, Lost In Translation, and Priscilla. In all, bright and capable young women are trapped in the cage of their husband, unappreciated for who they really are. I wonder if this speaks to her life growing up with her father (Francis Ford Coppola) and cousin (Nicolas Cage).

Holy shit, we’re going there.
I thought elvis was alright, but this does seem pretty interesting.

It would be a good excuse to watch some Sofia Coppola films, since I haven’t seen any yet. Any ones in particular I should watch?

I’m so glad Soffia Coppola ended up not directing the Little Mermaid live action, this looks amazing.

Oh this is gonna be fantastic
I thought his voice sounded like Nicolas Cage
Jacob Elordi’s height really makes him more menacing. He is 6’5” (Elvis was 6’).
Oh wow Jacob Elordi as Elvis seems like a pretty great casting choice. This definitely looks interesting!
Looks like the good stuff to me. If it’s not, I know where you live, trailer!
Love Sofia so much. And this Elvis looks and sounds way more like him than the Lurmann one.
Cailee Spaeny is 25 (!!!!). She looks 14. This is what that guy from Evan Hansen thought he looked like.
Too scray
Missed an opportunity not to use Bat for Lashes song *Prescilla* here
Man, I am not optimistic about Elordi’s ability to portray Elvis.
This looks fantastic!
Is it me or Elordi’s Elvis sounds like Nicolas Cage?
Omg…am i gonna like Jacob’s portrayal of Elvis better than Austin Butler lol

Who even asked for this? Or Elvis for that matter.
Sure seems to be a lot of pedophiles in this comment section.
They mentioned Ann-Margret! This is gonna be good.
So who is the weird manager character that the movie is going to really be about in this one? And what kind of bonkers accent can we expect?
She had the kinda legs you’d like to suck on for a day.
Love any movie a24 puts out. When are we getting a maxxxine trailer?
If you own Ultraviolence on vinyl and refer to Florence Pugh as Mother, have fun seeing this opening night
ESG carried the trailer
“Rewrites Elvis and Priscilla”

After reading the book I can honestly say the most interesting thing about her is that she was married to Elvis.
So if the Elvis movie was boring why would I want to see a movie about his boring wife
Elvis was a pedo, Priscilla was only 14 when they met
Wait until racist white boomers find out that not only was he a statutory rapist and serial cheater, but he also stole all his most famous music from black people too!
Seems weird they don’t have Riley Keough playing her own grandmother

Excited to see Cailee Spaeny in this. She’s a terrific actress and I hope this is a breakout role for her.
From trailer “She’s a lot more mature than her age”
FYI Priscilla was 14 when she met the 24 year old Elvis….don’t worry he became he legal guardian before eventually marrying her…

“Nothing can prepare you.” Huge eye roll.
*audible groan*
Does r/movies get a boner when you see A24?
