President Biden was interviewed on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night; it was a surprisingly tough interview

  • He acknowledged Fox being misinformation propaganda platform, so why not reintroduced the FCC Fairness Doctrine that was stripped in the 80s which allowed Fox to even exist?

Edit: Also, can someone answer me, what is the federal law thing he was on about for Roe v Wade? Would that be a vote in senate/congress, exec authority, or what? Why can’t he do it now?

Edit: I have many answers for my questions. Thanks all

  • Any interview with a politician or president that isn’t a softball fluff piece is called “tough” because that’s how we’re used to seeing politicians treated on tv, obviously because those are conditions they agree to in order to show up to begin with

I wouldn’t say this was a tough interview, but it wasn’t a softball “what’s your fav ice cream flavor” ass interview either which is refreshing

  • First of all, zero about this was tough. I really just tuned in to hear about inflation/policies, and when asked he basically started talking about how he wants to make insulin more affordable. When he goes back to oil, he says the oil companies don’t want to drill but if they can only get a few more democrats in congress they can straighten it out… so in a year if we can get a few more Democrats in congress they’ll make the companies drill for more oil? No mention at all about the [refinery issues created over the last few years](https://www.reddit.com/r/Economics/comments/v0ed97/comment/iagxc7o/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) killing gasoline prices.

Kimmel had to save his ass going to a break because Biden went on a story about the press and just got lost. And then a Trump joke, which is fine for the base but people want solutions not pointing at the last guy two years later. Then he gets asked about Roe vs Wade and says if its overturned, we’ll have to pass a law — *you control all the houses and can likely get abortion secured for everyone within the first trimester right now. You could have done that last year. What the hell are the Democrats doing? Because it sure looks like they’re not going to not pass legislation to have a wedge issue for elections.*

This was nice and all, and I get this was really trying to improve his approval numbers and improve the upcoming midterms bloodbath but what the actual F.

  • As someone from outside America, I felt Kimmel asked questions I’d like to put to him – the idea that he has all this power at his disposal but would prefer to develop a consensus than use it seems insane to me, especially when dealing with a GOP who wouldn’t hesitate to do the same if they had the power.

I’m talking specifically about an executive order to ban assault rifles, implement tougher background checks etc. There seems to be plenty of consensus amongst Americans over this, so I find it strange that he wouldn’t just bypass these obstructionists in the Republican Party (and his own) and give the people what they want.

The Democratic Party seems like a bunch of well-meaning old men who are too set on working things out with a shower of proto-fascists who would happily overthrow them if they thought they’d get away with it. The United States is in a crisis right now and the next elections could be the last truly free ones; if I were Biden, I’d move heaven and earth to stop the elements of the Republican Party who want to dismantle democracy – collegiality be damned!

  • List of Biden’s accomplishments.

    1. Got on a show with scripted questions/answers from a fanboy host. ( Biden should do a real interview with Tucker.)
    2. end of list

  • Democrats are still obsessed with their ex (Trump) and cannot focus on how to make things better for this country. The Biden Administration is an embarrassment at this point, and it doesn’t get as much scrutiny from the media because he wasn’t a reality TV star who became president. It is a real shame, I am a Democrat and I have no faith that the Democrats will be able to do anything meaningful with the opportunity they have right now. In 2024, we will have a Republican president again, and more of their policies and judges will be put into place, and the only people the Democratic establishment can blame is themselves.

  • I came with an open mind, hmm I’ll see what OP means when he says “tough interview”…

What the fuck dude…that’s your idea of a tough interview…lmfao

  • You mean he sat there… like a man and answered questions? I thought the appropriate action was to berate and belittle the interviewer and then storm off the set.

  • The think I hate about any criticisms of Biden (or even Obama before him) is that they ignore the fact Republicans don’t let him do anything. Like, yeah, would Biden revolutionize the country and move us into a modern and progressive utopia? I doubt it, but if Congress doesn’t even give him the chance, can we fault him for doing nothing?
