She started off as a rapper at the legendary Good Life Cafe, and one of her first films was an ultra low budget doc on that scene, called This is the Life. Well worth a watch if you’re in any way interested in early 90s west coast hip hop.
I never caught Wrinkle in Time, cos it’s a kids movie (no shame in that, but it’s not for me), but but I Will Follow, Middle of Nowhere, and Selma were all very good, and this looks like a return to sort of film making.
It’s really cool that they are opening a film basically just on her name. She’s a smart and talented film maker.
