What’s with putting “American” in front of all these movie titles? It just seems lazy. American Hustle, American Gangster, American Beauty, American Sniper, etc.
>Monk is a frustrated novelist who’s fed up with the establishment that profits from Black entertainment that relies on tired and offensive tropes. To prove his point, he uses a pen name to write an outlandish Black book of his own, a book that propels him to the heart of hypocrisy and the madness he claims to disdain.
This movie is actually based on a novel. Hilarious and thought provoking, I’m sure people will have a lot to say about it.
Really interesting plot, going to check out the book and film. My only concern is people who agree with it are going to the miss the message and think it promotes “blacks are equal with whites, so stop talking about race” or “only racists talk about race” similarly to how conservatives think George Carlin would support their cause
I’ve been a fan of Mr. Wright’s acting ever since Westworld, where he really got to shine, and I’m excited to see him as the lead actor, given how the most mainstream material he’s been a part of has always had him as a supporting actor, and the trailer and premise are great.
Jeffery Wright is a fucking chameleon. Is there any role he doesn’t knock out of the park? From Peoples Hernandez to Felix Leiter to Jim Gordon. Legend.
I’m surprised Adam Brody didn’t get his name credited above the tital.
I swear Sterling K. Brown has had quite the film/tv career since he did that American Crime Story: OJ Simpson like 10 years ago. He won an Emmy or two on This is Us and starred in like half a dozen films over the years.
Adapted from Percival Everett’s novel Erasure, Jefferson’s film centres around frustrated author Thelonious “Monk” Ellison (Wright). Tired of the “Black book” trend – which is to say, books about the Black experience that perpetuate racial tropes – Monk decides to take matters into his own hands by parodying the format in the most egregious way possible. “
Percival Everett’s writing was always bound to be a gold mine for film and television producers. I would be excited to see more adaptations of his work.
The trailer starts with Issa Rae saying “Where are our stories? Where is our representation?” and my eyes rolled so hard I thought they’d fall out. Then I saw that the movie will be parodying that point of view and I was 100% on board. Great way to bait the hook! Well done.
THUG LIE is an interesting choice. Jeffrey Wright is great and this poster definitely has caught my interest.

This movie looks really intriguing. I wonder how people will handle the social commentary in the movie.

“a cinematic stick of dynamite”
So they’re already expecting it to bomb?
I’ll watch anything with Basquiat in it.
I get preached at enough as it is
When I see Jeffrey Wright, I’m interested
Glad to see Jeffrey Wright and Percival Everett getting some exposure- trailer looks great!

Besides loving the cast, I have to say that I haven’t laughed this much just on a trailer alone in quite some time. I’m here for this one.
The trailer picked my interest for the movie, looked pretty entertaining
Doesn’t look like anything to me.
Seeing this tonight – know nothing about it. Very excited!

That’s some awesome poster art!
What a great poster!

but with the reviews of American fiction being positive it’s safe to say that Adam Brody has had the best post O.C. career between the OC Teens
Poster intrigues…
Heads over and watches the trailer.
Now that’s what I’m talking’ about!
WOOH!
I like it.
Well done poster and trailer.
