Not many people out there who I wish I had their life. He is one of them though! IMO he lived in and documented the last of the untouched beauty of the American West.
I went though about 15 years of my life where I shot nothing but black & white film. Built a dark room in my house, packed my own film, developed and printed everything. All because of him.
Fuck Ansel. He tried to have William Egglseston’s one man show thrown out of MOMA because he thought they were “snapshots”.
That’d be like if Frank Sinatra tried to get The Beatles cancelled from The Ed Sullivan Show.
Insecure much?
> William Eggleston’s retrospective, “Democratic Camera: Photography and Video, 1961-2008,” at the Whitney Museum until January 25th, has garnered positive reviews, unlike the photographer’s controversial debut exhibition, “Eggleston’s Guide,” held at New York’s Museum of Modern Art in 1976, and curated by John Szarkowski. Back then, Ansel Adams, the most famous photographer of his day, wrote Szarkowski a candidly critical two-page letter, excerpted here for the first time, wherein he called Eggleston “a put on.””I find little substance,” Adams continued. “For me, [Eggleston’s photographs] appear to be observations,’ floating on the sea of his consciousness… For me, most draw a blank.”
Yeah, Eggleston is a lot more important to photography than Ansel in my opinion.
Obviously the photographer who took this shot really understood what Mr. Adams was trying to teach others about exposure and development. Every possible shade of gray is visible in this shot, along with some absolute black and some pure white, the essence of Adam’s “Zone System” (which he admits he didn’t invent, but he sure refined it). I believe his shorthand for the system of exposure and developing the film and making the prints was to expose for the highlights, and develop for the shadows. I shot a lot of crummy black and white while trying to become better photographer, and was never very successful and getting saturated exposures like this shot here. Really nice picture.

I never knew how stylish he was!

Are you sure that’s not Sean Connery’s brother?
Super high resolution! Sharp focus!
Seems odd, I have enjoyed Ansel Adams’ work for most of my life, but I don’t think I have ever actually seen a picture of him
The botanical gardens in Denver have a nice gallery of his works for those interested.
Group f64 4ever
Can someone colourize this photo?

This guy looks like an older version of Ross (from RossCreations) with a beard.

“Who are you, Ansel Adams? Get outta here!” – Chandler Bing (RIP)
The actor on the Righteous Gemstones who plays one of the idiot cousins, who was also the kid in Witness (oh do go look it up) it’s weird.
I really enjoyed his work as coach Bears on Ted Lasso.
he watches over the place while The Master is away
