He likewise had early television success in the early 1960’s, securing two Emmy nominations in 1961-1962, winning one. By the time he completed his run in “Columbo, “ he had earned a total of 10 nominations, winning four.
He also made several comedies in the 1960’s, and two films with his friend, John Cassavettes, who later starred in a memorable episode of Columbo.,
If you don’t know of his role as Columbo, you might recognize him as the grandpa from The Princess Bride.
Colombo is in my top 5 favorite shows. And I adored Falk.

My favorite Columbo when was when Ruth Gordon killed her niece’s husband by locking him in her safe. Great episode. The two had great chemistry
