Hey, we didn’t ask for the participation trophies, it was the same people who hate us for them that decided we needed them. We just accepted them so we wouldn’t hurt their feelings, and look where it got us.
Only semi-related, but I saw this guy at the cellar last night and he was absolutely not funny. He was mean when he should’ve been witty, and blamed the audience when his jokes didn’t land. Also, I don’t know if it means anything, but all the other comics waiting to go up looked like they we’re trying to avoid interacting with him.
I don’t have a problem with the content of the joke or find it offensive, but the “black people are good at sports” trope is *suuuuuper* played out in comedy. It’s a topic that’s been beat to death.
Doesn’t mean you can’t make it funny, but I’ve heard multiple variations on this same bit he did here, including the whole “you didn’t have to compete against them” dynamic. It’s been done.
Sneaking in “I did an incredible job” instead of complimenting the audience was also really funny.
Father: “You’ve still got a whole goddamn shelf of participation trophies in your room!”
Son: “It was your goddamn idea to give them to me.”
Ironically enough, those who bitch the most about participation trophies are also the most likely to still be flying confederate flags
This was definitely funny. Thanks for sharing!
Is this old? We’ve been doing the participation trophy / boomer thing for a while now
Geoffrey Asmus, the most Alpha comedian
That’s a great Mike Birbiglia impression!
He goes to Ohio but skips Michigan =(
Saw Geoffrey Asmus in MN back in July. He absolutely killed the room.
Hoping to see him again in December!
“I did an incredible job, have a good night”
Good joke, but his grandpa would have gotten a participation medal for Vietnam!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vietnam_Service_Medal
> The medal is awarded to recognize service during the Vietnam War by all members of the U.S. Armed Forces provided they meet the award requirements.
Also, Grandpa, yes they did. The Vietnam Service Medal.
I love old people bitching about kids getting them, considering the old people were the ones giving them out.
Seems like an act from a black comic from the 90s.
“White people are so lame, amirite?”
Why is this cut / edited so much?
Holy shit! I grew up with Geoff! Still appreciate him proof reading some essays for me back in the day.
Stupid.
Sucks!!
Really? Is that the level of good comedy now?
Basketball used the “short shorts” until the 1990s!
Those were really solid jokes about an extremely tired premise. The “I did a great job” was the best one of all to them though lmao.
I hate when women call themselves hot, and I hate when comics call themselves funny
Ha ha ha . Old people. Now that woman and any race are off limits.

Ahh, /r/funny reverting back to its usual self. We’ve had some surprisingly entertaining posts recently.
This was awful, it physically hurt to watch, listen, and understand.

Cringe as fuck.
That was fucking brutal blow by blow. I am saving it.
