Middle-aged white man writes novels that appeal to middle-aged white men and their problems, then proceeds to not apologize for being a middle-aged white man. And then goes on to become a prominent climate activist and philanthropist while continuing to write award-winning novels.
The Franzen hate is just ridiculous; he is well aware of his public persona despite not using Twitter, and he shouldn’t be obliged to apologize for his entire industry.
