I know nothing about the manga and even less about this live action production, but based on even the kindest yet still critical reviews of Netflix live action manga/anime…
I imagine this will be a big waste of time and money for Netflix
I cant fathom this being any good.
Lot of work for a show that’ll only last a season
the sets look pretty good ngl
Regardless of its eventual quality, with Netflix announcing that they’re pulling back on spending I can’t see this show lasting. It will need to be expensive to even bare resemblance to the source material.
I like the cast so far though. It’s mostly no names and very diverse (the source material is very diverse so it should reflect that). Hope for the best expect the worst.
Its rare to see this much money actually being burned before your eyes.
I really don’t get the whole ‘live action anime’ trend. Cowboy Bebop was a flop and Avatar is guaranteed to be worse than the original show (aka one of the best TV shows ever).
Who is this made for? One Piece fans will probably dislike it as its worse than the original, and are there enough newcomers who will want to see this?
I think this is another expensive dud for Netflix…
a look at the dumpster before its on fire
Since everyone else here is so negative about this I’m going to be the optimistic one and say I think this will be better then people are expecting.
I am the only one who likes Cowboy Bebop 2021, but even I know this is gonna be an expensive cancellation.
Showing absolutely nothing from the show in favor of producers saying how much they love One Piece and how oh so awesome it is to work on it is worrying. I know they’re in pre-production but they could have shown the cast in costume.
The actor yelling roll it was somewhat Luffy-esque I guess. And the sets do genuinely look great.
Damn. This looks bad.
This is a really baffling project.
Cowboy Bebop was something I could totally imagine being translated into a live action series. And while it ended up flopping the actual show was not absolutely terrible. There was some promise there.
One Piece seems like the epitome of a show that works as a cartoon but will just come off as gratingly silly in live action. Even with perfect casting and production values, it just doesn’t seem like a world that will translate well.
No idea, who thought making this show was a good idea.
But to be fair the sets look pretty good.
Even with unlimited budget i dont see how you could transfer OP into reallife and beeing cool.
the live action might bomb but I hope someone buys all these sets and makes a onepiece island somewhere
That Iñaki motherfucker’s gonna get real annoying real fast if his acting in the show is anything like his acting in this clip.
They nailed the casting for Luffy.
The sets look really good and kinda surprised they are going the practical route, due to how many ships we see throughout the series.
I fully expect this to be quite decent and that everyone hopes they learn some lessons for what works and what doesn’t going into a second season, only for Netflix to cancel it anyway.
Looks very very good. Honestly I am excited for this!! Love One Piece
It’s sad that despite putting a respectable amount of effort into this project, it will likely still be bad. I really want to be positive but the track record of anime to live action adaptations speaks for itself. They can’t even get the more grounded, simple shit right. How can they handle something as wacky as One Piece?
Looks super expensive, which means if it isn’t absolutely massive hit it will be quickly canceled.
I don’t expect this show to last or even catch up to the manga unless they somehow get a few seasons and just end it somewhere
Don’t know how might adapt the Giant Mermaid Arc. If they even get that far.
Even this shows looks decent (lets say 7/10 but without story since story is obv great) these guys should get every award possible. Man i really really dont see how we can have decent OP adaptation but lets see i gues
Edit: Casting and sets looks good so far i must say
I have no clue how they’re going to pull off the stretchy powers. It costs an insane amount to do them properly. I’m convinced that’s why Mrs Marvel got her powers swapped.
So this adaptation is going to cover at least up to Arlong Park? That is a lot of material for what will surely be not much more than 10 episodes.
Is Netflix just gonna keep turning anime into live action until one doesn’t end up a flop?
This is gonna be live action Cowboy Bebop levels of terrible.
Just want to point out a lot of times bad shows have great costume designers and set designers and great crews, which makes it even more tragic when the show is bad. I have zero faith this is going to be good but it’s cool the crew is working hard and doing their part to see it done right
I really want to like this, but One Piece absolutely depends on it’s wacky physical comedy. It translates well to a cartoon, but live-action will be awkward as all hell. It will need extensive and expensive CGI or half the show falls flat. That seems like a recipe for failure no matter how good the script and acting are.
I Think one piece is probably one of the worst anime to do live action
