No way to really prove you were first if the time it took to finish the race shows it was a tie according to this image.
It is called lag. The connection between the server and your pc has a delay which sometimes results in visual glitches, like you being ahead of another player when, in fact, both are even.
You may see one thing but the result screen shows what was recorded on the end of the other player. And what happened is that both were even.
