I’m gonna be a complete nerd and recommend people watch Sunshine I’m fucking obsessed with it, Alex Garland is an amazing writer
I’m down for whatever this guy does. I’ve read all books, was impressed that he and Danny Boyle elevated both 28 Days Later and Sunshine into far more thoughtful genre pieces, and even though I didn’t like Annihilation as much as everyone else, I admire the craft. Devs was great. And Dredd proved that even though he likes think pieces, he’s not above a tightly wound, straightforward action flick.
This is giving me some serious STALKER vibes.

Damn A24 really succeeded in very quickly becoming a “brand” didn’t they. I’ve never heard a movie of theirs mentioned without someone mentioning it’s an A24 movie.

No idea what it’s about but A24 has been releasing unique movies in a time of non original movies at least in theaters
I want Alex Garland to remake The Beach.
What’s funny is I love Danny Boyle’s movies dearly. But he really messed that one up. The first half of it is a fun adventure romp, but it turns into such a mess after everyone gets settled on the island. It can’t decide what genre it wants to be and tries about a dozen different tones on for size.
Meanwhile Alex Garland has turned into just as good of a director as Danny Boyle is at his best. He should be able to direct his own story. The book is one of my favorites I’ve ever read, and the movie seems to entirely miss the point. Instead of being a cautionary tale and adventure journal, it’s a shallow Leo vehicle that’s not much more than a messy pop culture time capsule. Garland needs his own shot at it with his own voice.
This isn’t a bad poster on its own, but damn if the whole “skull disguised as THING” thing hasn’t been done to death.
