Get a suspender belt, way more comfortable! Congrats friend!
Nice! Any tips for others following a similar path?
Very nice! Just be sure to grab a door stretcher. The essential tool for every carpenter’s kit.
congrats!
how long the apprenticeship will last?
Pro tip stick to one power tool brand and never buy at full retail, it will always go on sale eventually.
Best wishes. Getting into electrical work really improved my life.
Congrats! Don’t forget your sunscreen!
Congrats on starting your dream.
Couple of tips from an internet stranger. Pick 1 brand for power tools. I will never but anything but a stiletto hammer. Dont wear good clothes on the job. Walmart/old navy pants and shirts. They wont last as long as name brand, but you wont be pissed off when you rip a shirt on a nail.
You’ll get used to hard hats
I’ve always enjoyed that kind of work.
^… ^I ^should ^probably ^go ^do ^that ^…
If anyone asks you to go get a bucket of steam, disappear for about 15 minutes then show up with a bucket a third full with water and say “ahh shit I took too long”
Buy yourself quality boots . Boots will make or break you
Hello fellow Islander!!
Congrats from one van islander to another
Ok, now get to fucking work and quit trying to be cool.
Take care of your body (eyes, ears, limbs, and especially your back). Best advice I was told is to not work for twenty to thirty years to just spending all your money on fixing yourself in your old age. Seen a lot of old timers doing just that. Lots of money to be made, you want to be able to play with it later. Take early morning stretches seriously.
Worked with some girls in my twenty years in construction as a carpenter. All very hardworking. Was a great seeing them work their way up to having their own apprentices. You got this!! Good luck!
Carhart pants are a lifesaver
Sorry about your back pain.
Oh wait, pretend I said that in 10 years.
Can’t stress enough about PPE, eyes ears and nose. Look at some of the old timers and take notes. Either they took care of their bodies or treated them like trash bags. Spend the money on all boots, rain boots, work boots. I’m also a huge fan of light weight rain gear and layer underneath. Congrats, you will make great money and a strong retirement and will have ample opportunity at upward growth. I’m a high school drop out and now I own a house with a pool!!
Your not just a Carpenter, you’re a fucking Framer. Be proud of that shit. Keep your finger off the trigger- those ring shanks don’t come out easy.
Congrats! What is your dream project
Buy a tool or two as you need them. If you need a better one do some research first. Keep 9n mind it might get lost before it breaks and you still have to replace it.
Get good boots and take care of your vack.back.
Nice to see a woman in the trades.
Welcome!
Hell yeah. I remember when I got my start in my career. It’s an amazing feeling. Congratulations!
Fook yeah! Get after it!!
Yeah , follow your dream and don’t let anyone tell you you can’t do it!
I believe you’re supposed to measure twice and cut once.
Or in my case measure 5 times, cut incorrectly. Make 10 back and forth trips to hardware store, glue something together to hold it whilst I call a professional like I should have done at the start.
Congrats on the job.
Awesome! What type of carpentry will you be doing? Pro Tip: Don’t worry when people make fun of you for using the guard on the angle grinder. My boss has a 7″ scar from taking a grinder to the face with no guard on. I’d rather get made fun of than get stitches. Be careful and have fun!
As a fellow BC carpenter, welcome to the jungle. Lol
Carry spare pencils, don’t drop your levels, keep band aids in your pouch and get to the job site first so you can pick the music
Pro tip: consider joining a union if there’s one around. A lot of times they’ll make your employer furnish some/all of your bits and power tools, plus PPE. Also the benefits and pay are significantly better even after dues.
Source: am a union electrician in Chicago. Our benefits package is probably double what the non union guys make.
Ok have fun
Be nice to the other guys at the worksite.
No lollygagging and grabass- it can lead to accidents and injury
Nail gun fights are fun until someone gets a free prince albert
No hardhat, no vest, no gloves.
Get some PPE for fuck sakes!
Welcome to the trades, give’r shit!
Shits hard on your body. Take up yoga. You’ll thank yourself in 30 years (and next week).
You look like a total badass, congrats!
If you ever feel like switching employers reach out! The island is very welcoming. My family has a framing business and I am also a woman in (a different) trade! Don’t ever feel stuck or unworthy.
Also don’t be afraid to rock pink, I also avoided it at first too but really it’s no big deal. Good visibility and less chance of people trying to permanently “borrow” your tools. Also agree with the other commenters on tools, “buy once, cry once” is the way to go for tools and gear if you plan to stick with it. I really like the occidental leather belt and suspender systems. Best wishes!
Kneepads!
My Dad lays carpet for a living.
Other than that, super congrats! 🙂🎉
OK, so what’s the big deal?
High noon and you’re still clean… and get a real pair of safety glasses. 12 pack is $5
Time is money. Get to work
