What OS are you going to put?
That’s probably about a 15 year old machine. I hope you can find a way to get some use out of it!
Unused, unusable basically same thing.
That can def run Age of Empires 2, so you’ve got all you need.
Hahaha shit, not gonna lie this badboy was a beast at his times. Back in the days i bought the exact same notebook as my first own ever because it was able to run doom 3 🔥🤘
If only you could mine crypto from the time of the device…
Gotta getcha a copy of The Matrix: Path of Neo now! Assuming you like retro games anyways.
Pretty sure this is the exact same computer that I bought in 2005.
run it for long enough and you can use it as a hairdryer.
Windows XP and go to town.
Titlegore galore.
– All right, check out this bad boy. Twelve megabytes of RAM, 500 megabyte hard drive. Built-in spreadsheet capabilities and a modem that transmits at over 28,000 BPS.
– Wow. What are you gonna use it for?
– Games and stuff.
i wonder how actual usable it would be with a linux install.
Holy shit, a Pentium 4. I can see why it was free. Slap some Linux flavor on it and you’re set.
From 2002
This is legit nostalgic for me. Is it really unused? It looks great for its age.
That’s 32bit only, so you are limited when it comes to the OS you can install on it. Most linux distros dropped 32bit support, but Debian still supports it. Good luck on your journey fellow nostalgic.
…from the far off year of 2005
It has 1/10 speed compared to a Raspberry pi 3. You will have a fun time with this one!
Laptop speakers that probably don’t suck. That is probably the best thing about it IMO. I bet they plays some DVD’s pretty decent.
This is actually a fairly desirable retro laptop. It can run modern Linux fairly well (albeit 32-bit and with a GPU-less X11 GUI like XFCE).
Depending on the GPU, you might get Aero and a path to Windows 10. Though it’s probably best kept on Windows XP SP3.
I’d max out the RAM and put a PATA to SATA SSD adapter in there, or a PATA SSD.
Source: I collect laptops from that era. I have some models they literally only sold a few hundred of in the USA.
Pentium II. Windows XP. Circa 2000.
Respect the Pentium
Hey free is free! I would suggest getting a cheap SSD and see if you can upgrade to a newer wifi card and this would be a great netflix/internet machine! Also if you can swap out the memory for an upgrade that would also help lots!
Lucky! Can it read floppy disks too?
Can def run Tetris on ultra high…
IIRC these things were hot af.
Widescreen!
Might even run half life… Like the og version
