Rick Moranis had a pretty good career, but as far as I know, the actress was only known for this role.
I hadn’t watched this since I was a kid until recently. Totally forgot it was a musical. Told the wife “I guess this is why I like some musicals now”. Forgot it was seeded early in my life.
FEED ME!!!
We need more violent humorous musicals. There’s this, Rocky Horror Picture show and maybe Sweeney Todd that come to mind. That’s not enough.
Phantom of the opera is violent (and good) but not really the same kind of funny.
Alan Menken is possibly the greatest songwriter of all time. His medley of songs is unbelievable [link](https://youtu.be/Syzw3znAW7o)
That whole movie is a masterclass.
I played Mr. Mushnik, the flower shop owner, in my high school production of Little Shop many,MANY years ago. Getting eaten by the plant was a blast! Love the film and still listen to the soundtrack. Full of bangers.
I enjoyed *Little Shop of Horrors* (I was a kid when it came out) but never really cared for other musicals most of my life. In recent years there have been several I really enjoyed.
* [Rock of Ages](https://youtu.be/LcxiggtopMU) featuring a lot of great 80s rock music. The lead roles were played by a couple newcomers along with a star studded supporting cast, included [Tom Cruise as Stacy Jaxx](https://youtu.be/kPeY1zD9CE0)
* [The Greatest Showman](https://youtu.be/ollOayfDJFc) with an excellent original soundtrack and some really fantastic cinematography.
* [Hamilton](https://youtu.be/0D3zz6byFT4) The only one on my list that’s actually a live stage performance. A great story of America’s founding focused on one of the Founding Fathers that often gets short shrift in American History classes. Lots of great songs too.
It’s always stumped me how Rick Moranis seems to have a New York sounding accent in everything he’s in but he’s in fact Canadian.
One of the little things I love in life is finding out the source to Family Guy jokes I never fully understood.
> not a fan of musicals
How did you choose the only boring song in this musical?
Ellen still has it. [Here she is performing this with Jake Gyllenhaal in 2015.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prPSNxOcvDY) Amazing performance.
The funny thing about musicals is whenever you tell someone you don’t like musicals they insist that their favorite is somehow “different” than other musicals.
Honestly, if you like this there’s probably lots of other musicals you’d like.
Not a movie, but the series “Galavant” is pretty much a musical, and is hilarious!
her fucking voice, holy hell
Bravo had a show that was celebrating Broadway music. Mandy Moore and Adam Pascal did a really nice version of this song.
I really liked [Jenny Slates performance]( https://youtu.be/jF3JnxgDUS4) of this song in I Want You Back. Also that movie was surprisingly good and fucked up.
nice
Nah, im good.
Suddenly, *Seymore*.
Right there behind you!
*cue horror strings*
I saw this off Broadway in the early eighties in a small theater. On the ending note of the final song, vines dropped from the ceiling onto the audience and scared the living shit out of everyone. Brilliant.
I’m with you! Although Book of Mormon and Rocky Horror were legit.
Check out the Amazon movie “I Want You Back” with Charlie Day and Jenny Slate if you want some nostalgic Little Shop of Horrors throwback.
Alan Menken could make a B-movie horror flick into a masterpiece.
Come to think of it, he did.
I’m always confused by people who say, “I’m not a fan of musicals.”
Why?
Do you like movies?
Do you like music?
Then you should enjoy musicals….at least *good* ones.
If you crazy kids would stop singing for just a hot second, I’d really like to talk to you about buying this property! XD
They don’t make musicals like this anymore. The team that did Aladdin and Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast could have learned a lot from these guys.
Please more violent humorous musicals
After they completed the movie version of Little Shop of Horrors, Ashman and Mencken went into their next project of writing the music for the Little Mermaid.
I just love the joke that the character’s speaking voice is so meek and mousey but then she’s got that huge singing voice.
If you like LSoH, try Rocky Horror Picture Show and perhaps even the stage version (not a fan of the movie) of Sweeney Todd, which is similarly tongue-in-cheek and over the top with its darkness.
