That might actually have a decent chance of success today with PSVR2. Pair that with one of the modern Resident Evil games in VR or develop a decent budget Texas Chainsaw Massacre VR game.
Current gen had a PokeBall for let’s go. The issue is the more complex the game, the harder it is to do custom controllers. Unless you’re from soft then you just send a bag of potatoes out as a controller.
My favorite streamer just actually played through RE, RE2, RE3, and Code Veronica with this controller. He plans to play through the RE4 Remake (once released) with it as well.
I bought one of the RE games on wii and it came with a foam knife to put the nunchuck in. I used it almost anytime I played a wii game because it was just so ridiculous
That era, and the one before it, were WILD for controller designs. Between Mad Catz, Pelican, and Nuby, it was an arms race of who could make the cheapest shit that could give you the biggest blisters.
Eh, as cool as it was, I don’t really miss the era of having a million different peripherals. Most of them were pointless, shit, or both and the good ones were few and far between.
Never forget the Gun-Controller for RE: Survivor that was cancelled last minute because the only market that would allow it (America) had just had the Columbine Massacre and it was considered in poor taste
Please god no. I do not miss the wii era of having 20 different pieces of hardware at live $40 a piece. Gimme me a good, standard controller and leave me alone.
One-off peripherals are neat, but after all these years, I’d rather have a lot fewer of them and avoid the excess e-waste. Products should have some minimally justifiable, purposeful longevity.
I had the spongebob game cube controller as a kid and till this day i still consider it the best controller i ever played with. Not “risky” in design but still pretty cool.
On one hand, yea I miss those times. On the other hand, eff those times. A lot of controllers were complete garbage. Go back further, tons of peripherals that went no where. Be wacky responsibly folks lol
A friend of my mom’s is currently really stressed out about something chainsaw-related that happened last Halloween. Her and her 4 year old daughter went to one of those “Haunted House” places down in one of the southern states, and someone hired there was using a REAL chainsaw to scare kids. Well, he actually hit my mom’s friend’s kid in the forehead with the RUNNING CHAINSAW while they were going through the haunted house. He cut right into her forehead, she had to be rushed to the hospital, and she now has permanent brain damage from it. It’s been an insane last few months for them. I feel so bad for that kid and her mom…her mom is feeling so guilty that she took them there, because they were friends.
Yes but was it a risk that should have been taken? Risk it with a more ergonomic, more efficient design. I don’t want something that gives me carpal tunnel syndrome. Or some button that is harder to press, etc.

Wouldn’t that have been Capcoms call?
There was a PlayStation version of this controller as well. I heard it actually plays better too.
That wasn’t Nintendo, that was Capcom. They had the same one for the PS2 version.

Lol I still have mines for both gc and ps2
So you’re saying we need a Leon Penis n Balls controller?
The
*what*
That’s the only controller I can beat my friends with in smash melee
I never knew this was a thing. I am super sad.
The Donkey Konga Bongos controller is my favorite gaming relic by far.
ok…how do you play with that controller?
Resident Evil 4 was Capcom, not Nintendo. I recall this controller feeling really bad but it looks cool
The secret of Nintendo is that everyone who works there snorts 4 lines of cocaine daily
At least

To this day, I regret selling my copy of steel battalion.

I would kill for one of these ironically with a real chainsaw 😅 I’d use it for all my Gamecube games. I’d also have 3 more regular controllers 😅
Iirc it also made noise as well

The Switch has so much potential for weird controllers, but Nintendo was just like nah
Eh, as cool as it was, I don’t really miss the era of having a million different peripherals. Most of them were pointless, shit, or both and the good ones were few and far between.
This was a neat decorative piece, but an AWFUL controller
Never forget the Gun-Controller for RE: Survivor that was cancelled last minute because the only market that would allow it (America) had just had the Columbine Massacre and it was considered in poor taste
I was working at GameStop when this came out and I was like “this is the dumbest thing ever. Now they’re stupid expensive.
It wasn’t risky, it was cool.
Imagine if Capcom remade this for the PS4/XBOX series X/S for the remake
Oh man, I totally forgot about this thing!
I never had one but I worked at an EB Games when it came out and remembered how all the employees wanted one but none of us bought it, ha ha

Still staring at it figuring out how to hold it comfortably.

Pepparidge Farm remembers

Steel Battalion has all other specialty controllers beat.

Buy me bone storm or go to hell!
It doesn’t even make sense contextually, since in game you never get a chainsaw, at best a chainsaw gets used on you.

I miss when companies like Konami were on the cutting edge of gaming. Now all they care about is gambling machines.
