I was vey excited looking at the talent behind it and I’m glad the people could finish their movie but… Doesn’t look that good?
Animation-wise it seems that Hollywood took “ITSV stylization” and they understand “Hey guys, now we don’t even have to wait to actually render these things” and story-wise… That trope of the princess hasn’t been a thing for 40+ years so not really a subversion?
Holy shit! My first thought was “Wait, *that* Nimona? *Couldn’t be*.” And then the shapeshifting.
I read this comic ages ago as it was being self-published on the author’s website. Always loved it, loved the cohesive narrative and characters and genuinely well done ending, which was very rare for a period of indie comics that either never made it past the first act or often just went on forever with meandering non-plots. Absolutely wild to see it suddenly appear again as a completely new project.
Nimona is up there with Bone. A generation later, but the exact same type of work genuinely pushing the space (for Bone, indie publishing, for Nimona, web comics) and succeeding.
Had the chance to watch this a month ago, it’s surprisingly good. Initially the character of Nimona can come off a bit too edgy but as the film goes on she becomes a lot more likeable. The animation style may come off a bit generic but I still think it’s more unique than what Disney and Pixar have been putting out in recent years. The jokes mostly land and you can tell the film in general has a lot of heart. The right will certainly claim the film is “woke” but they can certainly go fuck a porcupine.
Is this a film I personally would watch again? No, though animated films aren’t my cup of tea anyway. Do I regret watching it? No, it was a lot of fun and I think DNEG Animation and Blue Sky did a great job. It’s a shame it’s not getting even a brief release in theatres.
I’m so happy that after two decades studios are finally over the Disney/Pixar animation style and we are getting innovation like Into the Spider-Verse, Arcane and now this.
That’s some neat looking animation.
Oh shit, I thought this got shelved. Neat.
This is what I want to see, different and interesting animation styles. Also, Chloe Grace Moretz is perfect for this role.
The hell was that?!
I’m in!
Wait is this that movie that was supposed to be released by blue sky before getting Disneyd into oblivion?
oh nice that’s not at all what i was expecting it to look like, I’m down

I’m just happy Netlfix saved this. It looks great and hopefully holds to the standard of the comic. Which is really damn good.
Had no idea this was coming so soon.
Lot of influence from Patrick Osborne though he left thr project a while ago, you can still see hownthis builds on thr visual style of Feast.
Wild how huch Spider-verse convinced thr industry thst other styles were possible.
Fresh original content, I’ll always support that
Oh man, a lot of people are gonna make this their entire personality
Been waiting for this to come out for years! Looking forward to seeing Blackheart and Goldenloin in action

Looks very good. But I don’t think I’m really the target audience for this. I wish them luck, though!
This looks really great! Absolutely love the animation style
No way!!!
Subreddit: ***r/Nimona***.
Took me a while to warm up but by the end of the trailer, I was all in. I’m a sucker for a shape changer.
In a year where Pixar’s latest film looks awful, Netflix is still sending this one directly to streaming?!? I’m keeping my expectations low.
Got some… inexplicable FLCL vibe, especially from the first scene in the trailer.

Netflix already has Morphie. Why do we need this?
Obviously not the story from the comic, but looks entertaining.
I have known about this film for some time after it got shelved. So far it looks pretty interesting. Definitely going to check it out.
god i hope they don’t screw this up.
The coloring had me think for a second this was a Arcane teaser
Ugh. I loved this story! I HATE HATE HATE this animation style.

/r/notlikeothergirls the movie. I’m in.
this feels like it would have been cooler in 2008 or something.
