If we’re going by Terraria’s Steam artwork then the silver armor is pictured and that’s the third set of armor one would get very early on in pre-hardmode so of course it isn’t going to be that good.
Mario.
Not necessarily stats but ESO the armours all look meh and differ so much from the versions in the video ( Breton hero armour for example )
Feels like so many games have that, cool looking armour on the front cover, but crap stats and barely used in favour of other armours. Fallout is the same, I never wear the vault suit for long. Assassin Creed Odyssey (Depends on the armor though, but I never went for the Spartan set)
the only game that didn’t do this (that I recall) is New Vegas
edit: ok I guys I understand that I was wrong pls stop assaulting me like this
This is pretty common, isn’t it? Default or early game gear is usually featured on the cover because that’s what you’ll have access to in demos and preview material.
Witcher 3. The initial armor is one of the coolest, but unfortunatly its pretty bad.
God of war 2018 and ragnarok. At least I can still apply the bear Cloak as an appearance for maximum drip.
It’s also a weird mix match set, too. Heavy arms, legs, and helmet but a studded light armor set?
Cloud’s buster sword is terrible
Witcher 3
Cyberpunk 2077 ore 2.0 patch
Zelda. Link always wears the plain green tunic which generally has no stats.
The Cyberpunk jacket I believe was mostly just cosmetic
I wish more games have the system used the the Hogwarts game where you can invisibly equip any thing you want for the stats but keep any look you want for your avatar.
Tears of the Kingdom
Most of Monster Hunter games.
So all of them?
Totk
With a high smithing skill, you can level up your armor. I went through most of the game with heavy fur armor (since it looked like the only set that would actually keep you warm)
What are you talking about. If you upgrade it enough that studded armor plus the iron armor is awesome
BG3
All the characters are featured as staying in their initial outfit but I doubt anyone plays like that
Probably Fallout 4’s jumpsuit. It’s the equivalent of running around naked. Just slightly less appalling
Halo CE. The energy shield takes forever to load!
The armor from Ghosts and Goblins
Dark Souls canon armor tends to just be on either random NPCs or fodder.
AC Odyssey
The cover art armor for Dark Souls 1 remastered isn’t garbage, but there are wayyyy better armor.
I think it’s most games. Usually the cover armor is the starting armor, so it’s automatically bad.
God Of War 2018
Does megaman count? His base armor is shit
Every MMO ever made.
Every class has an “Iconic” look that developers want players to look like and then you end up having paladins wearing cloth armor to heal and warriors wearing clown armor because it’s best for pvp.
It Tears of the Kingdom.
Nioh 1, Williams’s armor, the youngblood armor, has no set bonus, no interesting specific bonus, it only usage is transmog or in ng+++ where everything get a random set bonus.
MH iceborne, that armor(direwolf) is a skin and have no armor counterparts.
Wo Long, it literally the first armor you get.
Mass Effect
technically metroid dread
Literally EVERY game that lets you equip gear.
box art is always starting gear, in every game ever. sure skyim is not “starting gear” in that you start in prison garb, but the nordic set is basically level one from bandits immediately.
God of war 2018? The only one I can think of.
I kinda wanna say Fallout New Vegas too tho
Not exactly armor but the C96 pistol which is on the cover of the Battlefield 1 game and start screen is one of the worst sidearms and limited to only the medic class.
