Fuck, I thought it was bad when I first saw my wife’s email that had over 1,000 emails – almost all of them spam.
It took several hours work unsubscribing to multiple sites, blocking and adding to spam filters for others and completing mass deletions to get it under control.
Thankfully, my wife actually listened when I explained how this happened and how to avoid it, so it’s never happened again.
But I’ve had the same Gmail address for about 20 years and yes, things pile up.
What do you want me to do, delete email from dead friends and relatives? Get rid of my history with various recruiters and potential employers when in my field people change jobs every few years? Get rid of my archives of travel I’ve done and people I’ve met?
Yes, I use subfolders, I delete spam and sales flyers, and most newsletters. But things still add up.
It’s nice to manage in theory, but it’s not practical. I’ve had my email since I was like 5, I’ve used it all over the internet. By the time I even got old enough to consider managing it, it was already too far gone. It’s not like it even matters, I read what comes in for the day, if I need it I open it, if I don’t I ignore it. Gmail also auto separates out promotional emails and other stuff like that if you fiddle with the settings a bit
My Gma’s phone has a huge red number like that next to her email app. I’ve cleaned it out once for her but it continues to grow. Pro-tip: don’t get your email on any political mailing lists.
Lol 😂 that looks like my boyfriend’s inbox…he NEVER deletes any emails he does read and rarely checks his email as it is! I am the polar opposite. There’s nothing in my work or personal email inbox after I’ve read it and dealt with it. It either gets deleted, or the message goes to a subcategorized folder…yeah, I’m like a Martha Stewart type organizer. 😊🤓
I use my Gmail account for those websites that you know are going to send you a bunch of junk mail. I’ve never checked it. Probably 15 yrs now. I’ll check it when I get home.
The only way out is to divorce the whole family. They are obviously insane. /s Good luck with that !
wow. just wow! just personal emails or work related too?

But this, this is on a whole new level…
This should be in a horror subreddit. It makes me a little physically ill.
Monster

Before my grandfather died, I would go over weekly and mass delete his inbox down to around 175,000 unread in an effort to keep new email coming in.
I hesitate to think what it must look like by now!
Give her a hug. She might appreciate it.
At this point why the fuck even check email?

I don’t see the problem here.

I’m in the same club!
Can’t you just select all and mark as read???
I found out recently that you can search by ‘unsubscribe’ then mass delete most spam emails.
“Mark All As Read” get familiar.
Come back when she’s in the mid 6 figures then I’ll be impressed.
