Well off. The depression had not yet ended and WW2 not yet begun. This was a time in between earth shattering events in this country. In 1938 there were still a lot of people who could not afford a meal.
That would be the perfect era to go back to. Fashion was at its best, and New York just was learning how to cope with becoming the melting pot of civilization. Though the 60’s and 70’s brought a lot of culture there, it would have been beautiful to go back in time there for a day.
Aesthetic standards were much higher then. People looked amazing even if they only had one pair of shoes, one suit and two shirts. And they actually made a huge effort if they were going anywhere….even just a trip to the store was worth getting styled up for. Constant daytime tv and consumerism killed all of this
They do. You know I’m happy everybody’s wearing what they want but you have to kind of admit just a little bit of a part of you kind of misses when people cared about how they looked when they went out. I’m a millennial, but I know that this way of thinking is archaic. But I still can’t help but feel the way I feel. Everybody was in suits or at least dressed very nicely. These days I can’t take 20 steps down the street without seeing the outline of some dudes dick or someone’s fat ass falling out of pajamas.
I’m fully prepared for a mass down voting but I’ve got karma to burn. The older generation has gotten a lot wrong, don’t get me wrong.
killer jaw lines
Great colors, great fashion and beautifully candid.

Your grandpa looks like he was a part of the Peaky Blinders
Everyone dressed so fashionably in public back then! Suits and ties and fedoras, and pretty dresses.

Looks a little like Tom Hiddleston
I think back in the day everyone dressed better than today.
You mean before everyone dressed like slobs.
That’s what the old people used to tell me when I was a kid
