My Grandfather (US Army WW II circa 1941) and Great-Grandfather (Polish Army WW I circa 1916)

My Grandfather (left) fought in World War II, he enlisted in 1939 after Poland was invaded. He remained through the end of the war, including arriving in Normandy on 6/9/44 (my grandmother would say he got there D Day plus 3). He received 2 Purple Hearts. The first, after choosing to have part of his tricep removed and sent back out, rather than losing his arm after taking shrapnel in Italy.

My Great Grandfather (right) was a polish soldier, and a POW captured by Russia. He was out to work as a tailor (his trade before the war). He made himself a Russian officer’s uniform and fled to the US. After the war was over, he sent to have the rest of his family (including my Grandfather) brought to the US.
