We all know the basement is where they hide the good stuff.
I forgot about that place.
I was more impressed with the tacos and beer on the River Walk.
Are you gonna remember it?
I have seen it. I will always remember the Alamo
Did you learn how to say, “adobe”?
Repeat after me “Adobe”
the stars at night are big and bright ….
My first thought on seeing it was “Why didn’t Santa Ana just go 50 miles to either side of it?”
Yeah, I was disappointed too.
Fun fact, Ozzy Osbourne peed on the Alamo years ago. At least, that’s what he was told by crew members. He can’t remember.
I got so emotional there. Heavy vibes
Born and raised in texas and had always wanted to visit the Alamo. Wow was i surprised. It’s pretty much right in the middle of a sprawling commercial space. Like, if your facing one angle you’ll see this 1800’s fort and if you turn 90degrees in any direction you’ll see a mall or a super target.
Is “The Alamo” just this facade? Because every time I hear about the Alamo, it is always represented by this facade
I had more fun at the Ripley’s museum nearby
Clap clap clap clap..deep in the heart of Texas!
I hear good things about their drafthouse.
You’ll never forget it.
Pretty disappointing huh?
Its astonishing how small it is. It has such a rich and dynamic history and lore. I always just imagined it was the size of a castle or fort. Edit: next added
Soooo… “The Battle of the Alamo (February 23 – March 6, 1836) was a pivotal event and military engagement in the Texas Revolution. Following a 13-day siege, Mexican troops under President General Antonio López de Santa Anna reclaimed the Alamo Mission near San Antonio de Béxar (modern-day San Antonio, Texas, United States), killing most of the occupants. Santa Anna’s refusal to take prisoners during the battle inspired many Texians and Tejanos to join the Texian Army. Motivated by a desire for revenge, as well as their written desire to preserve a border open to immigration and the importation and practice of slavery, the Texians defeated the Mexican Army at the Battle of San Jacinto, on April 21, 1836, ending the rebellion in favor of the newly formed Republic of Texas.”
So the battle of the Alamo was to keep it separate from Mexico, keep borders open, and practice slavery… news to me. Missed that part of history class
Did you get any pics of the basement?
Don’t you dare take a picture inside though!
Ozzy pissed there
Hey, I remember that!
There should be a bike in the basement.
How whelmed are you. Be honest
Is it like the Mona Lisa?
It seems like it is much smaller in person than the epic fortress I imagined, lol.
Were you as disappointed as I was?
One of the most underwhelming historical sites ever lol. BUT right across the street is a Ripleys, and a wax museum. It’s Louis Tussauds. Not to be confused with his grandmother Marie Tussauds (of Madame Tussaud’s). His work is….not as good. Which, frankly, makes the wax museum fucking hilarious. I go every single time I’m in town. I went to the Alamo once 20 years ago and haven’t bothered since
I remember it well
Remember it
Dude, we’ve taken you there dozens of times… how could you forget?
remember it.
REMEMBER
Hey I remember that!
TO HELL WIT H THE ALIMO REMBER PERL HORBER?!
YOU REMBER ‘AT SHIT?!
Check out the other Missons if you have time! They are way cooler.
Most underwhelming landmark ever imo
I lived in Texas as a kid, and my sister said she didn’t realize we lost the Alamo until we moved to Utah.
Forget the Alamo
In 2009, I surprised my 13 year old son with a trip from NYC to San Antonio. He didn’t know where we were going until we got to the airport gate. I planned the itinerary – The Alamo, San Antonio Zoo, Natural Bridge Caverns, Riverwalk, and a Texas BBQ safari. We spent 5 days and had a fantastic time. It was our best mini vacation.
So that’s where they held out against Mexico because texas was part of Mexico at the time and wanted to succeed because Mexico outlawed slavery
There’s a piss stain from Ozzy somewhere on it.
THE most overhyped and overrated “attraction” in the country. Nice crop job on the photo, too. It’s surrounded by San Antonio.
Mexico was abolishing slavery and these fine, fine people wouldn’t have that so the wanted to secede. Just like when the US started to abolish slavery.
Let’s celebrate these heroes of freedom (to own humans as property)!
