Canada’s Mr. Rogers!
Is Mr. Dressup coming to prime or is this some show _about_ Mr. Dressup?
Also, as a kid I loved seeing his show kitchen for some reason. It just looked so real (and big) and I don’t remember seeing it often so it felt special.
Man! I used to love Mr. Dressup!
Right in the nostalgia.
Apparently he was an understudy of Fred Rogers but his show came out before Mister Rogers’s Neighborhood
Apologies to all Canadians, but I had never heard of him and was preparing for a horror movie freeze frame and transition to black and white. Until the clip of Fred Rogers actually showed up.
Growing up in WNY, we were so lucky to get a triple dose of regional kids shows with Mr. Rogers and Romper Room down in Pittsburgh, and Mr. Dress Up and Fred Penner in Ontario. God damn it, what wonderful people they all were/are.
As a parent now, I’m so happy to see Miss Rachel etal taking the torch from these previous legends of television and using their groundbreaking shows as inspiration to continue helping children.
I grew up watching Mr Dressup. Absolutely loved it. But I won’t lie I got excited when i saw this because I thought the thumbnail showed Martin Freeman playing him in a new drama series.
One of the good things of living in SE Michigan is access to Canadian television. Loved Mr. Dressup and the Friendly Giant.
And David Suzuki
Welp I’ve seen it now
Heck yeah! as a Seattle kid we got Mr. Dressup, Mr. Rogers was great…but Mr. Dressup was my guy!
Growing up in Canada, this was legit an every morning deal – I wanted Casey’s treehouse so bad – imagine not having to ever come inside at night, you just have your own dope tree-lodge, and a supercool dog that chills in it with you.
Then you get to dress-up.
Perfection.
Also, [The Friendly Giant](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Vm2-JUldNw) was my shit.
*(ok maybe The Tickle Trunk doesn’t sound right in this jaded age)
No slight to Fred Rogers but Mr. Dressup was the better show. Grew up watching both, and Mr. Dressup always got priority, it was amazing.
Looking forward to this. Saw him perform live not long before he died when I was just a little kid. I have faint memories of watching his show, but he was gone when I was really young.
Never having heard of Mr. Dressup before, I thought this trailer was for some kind of, pseudo-documentary about a fake Mr. Rodgers character. Now I’m sad that doesn’t exist…
Ok that’s it it’s half past noon on a Friday and I just saw the Tickle Trunk for the first time in a few decades and started wanting to cry fuck.
(That sentence is also oddly ominous sounding in a different context lol).
Growing up in Metro Detroit we had the pleasure of this being available. Great show
When he passed away, it should have been a huge deal based on how beloved he was by multiple generations.
But he died a week after September 11th, and even in Canada, the media attention was occupied elsewhere.
As a French Canadian, I didn’t know a lot of English back then (I was just a little kid) but he made me want to learn it even more. I loved that show.
Ok so I’m now crying
Did someone order Mr Rodgers Neighborhood from wish.com?
My parents and I both grew up watching Mr. Dressup, the man was a gift
Mr. Dressup presented an award every year for the best children’s tv project produced in my program at uni. The man was a real one.
“Mom! Can we get Mr Rogers?”
“We have Mr Rogers at home”
Grew up on this. A national treasure
What a wave of nostalgia ❤️😢. I’m thrilled that a documentary on Mr. Dressup has been made. Absolute Canadian icon.
The episode of the Newsroom (CBC) where the producer(who is the main character but a massive jerk)is making snide remarks and innuendos about Mr. Dressup during the show and at the end gets in an elevator. Ernie Coombs is standing there glaring at him. I thought I would die laughing.
Casey and Finnegan!!
When Scott Thompson was the first interviewee I thought this was parody.
That exact moment 2 minutes in when the piano starts and everything starts coming back to you.
Not going to re-up on Prime for this, but it’s very tempting!
The loss of Ernie still breaks my heart 22 years later. I still miss him.
Any friend of Fred Rogers is a friend of mine.
What about magic Tom? Tom Auburn?
A Canadian institution. Generations of us were raised on Mr. Dressup.
It was a better world.
We can’t get Mr. rogers sir.
Fine, bring me his non-union Canadian equivalent.
Back when a tickle trunk didn’t have a double meaning.
I’ve never heard of this and I swear once half of the Kids in the Hall showed up as testimonials, I thought it was going to veer into a parody
Saw this today at TIFF.
It’s a pretty formulaic doc, but the subject matter is so good! Prepare to cry!
