I usually get sucked in to helping someone move. My first question is, do you have anything in a box yet? The answer is always I only have a few things. Then am told they have to be out at the end of the weekend. Nothing is in boxes and the place is trashed.
As you can see, the intersection between the “Chance Boxes are Packed Correctly,” “Money Spent,” and “Boxes Packed” curves are above the “Will to Live” curve.
This is a sign that the box packer is packing in a DisEconomy of Scale and it is recommended that they exit this market in the short run.
All you need to do is keep that blue line up. Last move I did had such an easy unpack because of that. Future you will always remember past you with fondness.
I work for a major moving company (logistics/operations) and I see this happen a lot. I do what I can to make it an easy, painless event.
However some people are determined to burn themselves out and have a miserable time, because they refuse to give up control or basic info, because that’s the only way they’ve ever moved before…
It needs one more line showing boxes needed which should always be one higher than bought, then at the end plummet into nothing while leaving 100 boxes or whatever left over
Fuck moving, especially across state lines. I pretty much moved place to place every 2 years for the decade and a half. Across state lines 4 times in that period. The next time I need to move (God forbid), I think I’m just gonna burn all the shit down and start over fresh
Last year I moved halfway across the US. It was by far the most expensive and stressful move of my life. In about 3 months I will be moving just around the corner to the very first house that I will own. I have about a 3 month overlap in having both the rental and the new house, so I can move at my own pace. No well-packed boxes will be needed.
It will likely be the easiest and least stressful move of my life. And I’m SO excited to own a house.
I have to take issue with that mango-coloured line. There’s no way I’m keeping up that level of consistency in packing boxes during the rising pink line and plummet of the red line…
The boxes line is wrong though. It needs to stop at 3/4 way from the top and then flatline.
That’s the point when you open the car boot, and standing about 3m away just start throwing and hope for the best. Really by that point you 100% don’t care about literally anything anymore.
If it’s really bad you end up introducing a shovel instead of your bare hands.
Depending on the reason I f moving some people start of with 0 will to live and still maintain a move…. That’s perseverance.
As a professional mover, can confirm. All of this is accurate

The last time we moved my wife informed me that the next time I suggest moving it had better be inside a wooden box.

Interesting that the chances of boxes being packed correctly seems to start going down before any boxes even begin to be packed.
true. All true. And I will never give U-haul another cent of my money; terrible experience
Every single fucking thing on this list. Every single thing.
I swear to Christ I’ll NEVER do it again. My last move was my last move and the next one my kids can take care of.
So your only chance for survival is getting the move done in ten minutes?
It seems like eventually you get infinite money.
How can the “chance the boxes are packed correctly” decrease before the first box is even packed? 😂
Love how the chance of boxes being packed correctly is declining well before boxes are being packed.

<laughs in military>
I started a complete renovation of my apartment this week and this chart fits perfectly, especially the will to live line 😭
Most accurate graph I’ve seen in a while. Not even joking.

Conclusion: own only 2 boxes of stuff.
