[The ball swung in a lot very late. The commentator just doesn’t like the bowler.](https://twitter.com/ohlookitswill_/status/1468373279194984461?t=-lrbaakE-IEHgo77rVKYXQ&s=19)
For Americans wondering the significance of this, The Ashes is a biyearly series of 5 test matches between Australia and England. It is one of the oldest (if not the oldest) rivalry in sports stretching back to the 1880’s.
Unlike baseball where batters getting out quickly is regular, if not expected, and you will probably bat soon after, in cricket batsmen are expected to bat for literal hours and only get two innings. To get out on your first ball is bad enough, to get out on the first ball of the first game of the most important series for your country is unheard of.
England finished their innings with a score of 147, a competitive total would probably be at least more than twice that. At the moment England is being destroyed by Australia, but it could still change as the game goes on
Starc with a big fuck you to Rory, poms, entire english crowd, english fans back home watching this in the middle of the night & ofcourse, Shane Warne.
WHY WOULD YOU FLY ALL THE WAY TO AUS JUST TO PLAY WITH 1 PLAYER and get smacked!
For those who are interested, check out fire in Babylon – shows the transformation of the west Indies cricket team
I still rate Ryan Harris’ cherry against Cook higher. That ball was UNPLAYABLE
For Americans – this is a rare occurrence and is known as a Platinum (or Royal) Duck.

Get fucked Warney
When somebody said Burns got bowled to a leg stump half volley I was like “Bruh”.
After seeing that delivery swing around his legs I was like “fair enough”.
Shane Warne is such a dickhead
First time in 85 years the ashes have had a wicket on the very first ball of the series
I’m really glad I was asleep for this.
As an American I have no idea what actually happened. So he got the guy out on the first ball? Is that miraculous for some reason? Can somebody explain?
I know very little about cricket, but that seems like a terrible place to stand, unless you really want to be out lbw
Kerry o’Keefe was hilarious with this, he just kept going on about Burns footwork, and rightly so, what was that step?
“Leg in front of the 5 & 6th stumps”
Burns will not want to see the replay I don’t reckon. Footwork not great- just lost complete balance and shape. I think he was hoping for a nice little loosener he could nudge into the covers, it’s the only reason he would be so far across his stumps so early?
But to get that ball first up- that’s getting most openers out I think. Gem of a delivery.
Sport can be harsh. Cricket can be the harshest. 5 more days (potentially) to go after that moment
I apparently understand nothing about how cricket works…
As an American, this sport is so off the wall amazing. I’ve played a cricket game on the Xbox before, had no idea what was goin on but loved every second of it.
Bloody brilliant.
Who’s who? They’re both wearing white lol
Morning motivation for people from India.
Man that was a killer delivery. No one could have played that.
Fucking Warne, always ruining the fun.
With everyone talking about the rules. I want to know what we see go flying. Was it a piece if the ball, the bat or the post? It looks like a large shard of wood.
I love cricket
Can someone please explain the ‘swinging delivery’? Is it just a curve ball? Is it considered poor form to pitch curves in cricket?
I’m one of the few Aussies that genuinely hates cricket, but even I got hyped about this. The poms were in SHAMBLES
Fucking Warne ruined the moment with his bs analysis.
What a start for the Ashes though! And the way England have dug in on Day 3, this *might* turn out to be a great Test match. If it indeed does, what a start that would be to the Ashes!
