This looks….fun? On brand?
This looks generic but at least its not another FBI;CSI;NCIS;L&O;CHICAGO.
I sat through ‘Disjointed’ for Kathy Bates so I’ll survive this.
Ben Matlock is a criminal defense lawyer in Atlanta, with a tiny little practice but everyone knows he’s the best and who wins cases for innocent clients like Perry Mason did. This show is about a corporate lawyer apparently in New York who nobody thinks can do her job but wins through guile and faux stupidity, they clearly had a lawyer show with Kathy Bates and the rights to use the name Matlock and that’s it.
Didn’t she have a very similar show just a few years ago?
This reminds me a lot of that NBC she did a while back called Harry’s Law. That show was great, and I never understood why they cancelled it. It was doing so well in the rating and had really good writing from David E. Kelly.
Yep, just bluff your way into a New York City law firm, wander into exactly the right meeting, tell the partners you’re a lawyer who has the same last name as a fictional TV lawyer, (somehow) identify and stalk one of their clients, and they’ll hire you right on the spot 😂

A show that focuses on an attorney that relies solely on the defense of defendants accused of public defecation seems destined to go nowhere.
Is this show going to be a unique lawyer show? Probably not. Does it have a great cast? Yes, you can’t go wrong with Kathy Bates and Jason Ritter. Plus, I enjoyed Leah Lewis from CW’s Nancy Drew (one of the better actors from that show).
And this trailer wasn’t half bad so I’ll at least give the pilot a shot.

I would respect this show more if she were actually Matlock, not just an attorney with the name Matlock.
They should cut the scene where she says “just like the lawyer on TV”. Just embrace the myth if your going to call the show Matlock. It’s like they are apologizing for being a show.
