  • There’s potential here. Though I hope Kamala is more goofy in the show like she is in the comics. The actress is a bit low energy for me. But, again, she has potential.

Ms. Marvel, the initial run, was one of my favorite comics to come out of Marvel. And if you haven’t read it, I would recommend it a million times over. The lead, Kamala Khan is Gen Y’s answer to Peter Parker. Awkward, sweet, kind hearted, down to earth, blue collar and just trying their best. If you like Spider-Man, you will like Ms. Marvel.

I was just hoping for more Jersey accents for the show.

  • I was thinking about this the other day. Last year, all of Marvel’s shows featured characters who were well-known and had gained a sizable fandom among casual viewers. Loki, Hawkeye, Wanda, Vision, Falcon, and Bucky were all in massive blockbuster movies that everyone saw, so there was strong familiarity built into those shows.

With this and Moonknight, there will not be a built-in general audience for these characters. So it will be interesting to see how they perform.

Now, by far the MCU’s greatest strength is its ability to take characters who were not in the general consciousness and make them iconic, so I have plenty of faith in them pulling it off. To that point, I don’t know much about Kamala Khan, but I’m excited for this.

  • I don’t know. There’s a lot of changed material here. I guess she’s not actually powered by anything but the cosmic bands which means she’s not Inhuman which changes her whole thing imo. Her human side story should be ok if they stay true. This could mean she ends up going to space though and since the MCU is building their cosmic phase right now it makes sense. I’ll watch it, but I don’t know.

  • Disney+ is clearly allowing Marvel to explore and bring to light additional lesser-known Marvel heroes and I’m all for it.

As someone who loves all things Marvel I can’t say I’ll be able to catch every series they roll out in addition to their normal-fare MCU movies but content that caters to whomever is willing to dive in is a win-win IMO.

  • I’m not too familiar with this character. After playing the avengers game, I throught she just had stretchy powers like Mr Fantastic.

Seems to be more than that. Someone fill me in a little?

  • I understand the CGI aspect. Though changing her powers is a little weird to me. Are you changing the entirety of her character?

I never associated her with Mr. Fantastic. They were/are two very different characters. I loved the inhuman aspect. Not sure why they’re trying to mimic Cpt. Marvels powers though, the only similarity is that Kamala took her old costume and name for inspiration. Not sure where they’re going with this, but Kamala was never overpowered. That’s what made her so fun to read.

I’m intrigued to see what they do, but switching up the power scheme changes the character completely. Imo. Basically just made her into Nova minus the helmet.

  • Biggest concern is how young the cast is. Holland had plenty of A listers to help him. Kate Bishop had Hawkeye. This just looks like a bunch of teens.

Obviously they are catering to a younger target demo here, but the delivery of a lot of these lines hit me more like “Disney channel” than “MCU”

  • I kind of hate how this looks less like a marvel show and more like a Disney kids sitcom, but I also dont really want to say mean things about young actresses and contribute to general negativity.

Conclusion: I’m a forty year old dude, this isn’t for me, and God help me if it were.
