Mark Cuban destroying this guy’s Shark Tank pitch for “negative ion watches” might be the greatest takedown of quackery I’ve ever seen on TV

If that worked.. I got some jade eggs to sell
There are a lot of gullible people out there.
Ha, 3 minutes in he looks like he just went in for a proctology exam and realized his Dr. has ginormous hands.
“We made $70k in profits” off of $110k in sales.
Yep, scam.
There was also a Dragons’ Den episode (same show, different country) where someone tried to get the panel to buy into a pyramid scheme. It went about as well as you might expect.
That dude has the same voice and some similar facial reactions as Michael Cera.
Trump ion watches, each watch is infused with Trump’s own ion’s, get your’s now limited time offer, only $499.99.
It might be a scam, but Kevin still wants to see if he can milk it. You can almost see the dollar bills in his eyes.
My chiropractor recommended an ion watch to my homeopath who suggested I wear one.
Similar products (most often bracelets) have been sold for decades, and they have even used that same demonstration to show the “effectiveness” (although Cuban was correct that it was a placebo effect).
There is no data to support the claims these ion bracelets or watches actually do anything, but there is [some data showing how in some cases wearing one will expose the user to doses of radiation which exceed the recommended amounts](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8583333/). So not only do they not improve health, they are likely to have the opposite effect.
Scam all the way – but much like Trump merch the people selling it know there are a lot of fools out there looking to be separated from their money, so there will always be a market for this kind of garbage.
Snake Oil is alive and well.
Becouse 1 more radioactive source is just whats needed to cancel out the other radiation, thats how it works, right? Count me in!
Those are literally Rumbatime watches from 2012. https://www.insidelacrosse.com/article/gear-zone-dials-in-on-rumbatime-watches-/9686
I was surprised to see ionic bracelets for sale at a marathon expo last weekend. They were doing balance testing just like this guy!
There’s a lot of money to be made, at least until the class action lawsuit hits you.
Normally homeopath stuff is just bunk medical voodoo that won’t help nor really harm you but I’m pretty sure these ‘negative ion’ products and derivatives usually end up being fucking thorium oxide powders and other radioactive shit. Absolutely barmy anyone would want to put these things intentionally next to various bits of their body and don’t get me started on how horrific of an idea the powders are. It’s that bad they wouldn’t be handled without respirators and gloves in the nuclear industry.
I don’t watch Shark Tanks but I saw this particular one when I was visiting a relative.
First thing I said was “Yup Mark Cuban is going to skewer this guy and eat him alive.”
I remembered that he threw away a box of power bracelets in his basketball team’s locker room.

(Just kidding)
“negative ions which are a molecule” um… no… no thats not what an Ion is at all. And I love when she asks how do you know when it runs out and he’s like “it doesnt” so…. how does it change the charge in our body but resist the equal and opposite changing of charges within itself?
Its amazing he really thought to bring this to Shark Tank…
You know, as a huge Shark Tank and Dragon’s Den fan, I have always enjoyed Mark taking people down for stuff like this. Then he participated in a crypto pump-and-dump and was kind of proud about “getting out” in time. The coin was called Iron Titanium.

His proud “I got out” tweet was deleted but it’s quoted partially in the above article. He basically invested, astroturfed on Twitter for a while, then got out before everyone lost everything.
I feel like his skeptical mind should have steered him well clear of crypto but he continues to keep talking about it
FTX PAID KEVIN O LEARY 15MILLION TO PROMOTE ONE OF THE BIGGEST SCAMS OF OUR TIME
The balancing trick is pretty cool.

He’s not alergic to scams, he got involved with a heap of them during the crypto mania period.
The guy was sued by Exxon for using the Esso name and that was it for his watches.
I thought he was going to explain exactly how it wasn’t possible. All he did is call the guy a liar.
“Fashionable designs”
It looks like a fucking vibrator.
Worth mentioning that the “Negative ion chemical” that they put in it (if anything) is most likely thorium, a radioactive element that in close contact like a watch or pendant will in the long run harm you
I don’t know if it was this watch scam or another watch scam on Shark Tank, but after Cuban rejected them the NBA made a deal with the company, so some branded quack watches ended up in the Mavs arena. He gave them [the treatment they deserve](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StnBksWdjUg).
OP I would encourage you to google James Randi for much better take downs of quackery on TV.
These watches were once sold at the dollar tree in late 2000s, for $1. They were simply sold as test tube sport watches. I don’t have proof of this, but I did own one for swimming, they were cheap and sucked.
This guy was scamming even without the negative ion thing, he simply didn’t make the watches, just bought from some chinese factory.
Negative ion bracelets (and similar devices) are a WELL KNOWN SCAM.
HERE’S HOW THE SCAM WORKS: (basic physics)
STEP 1) The salesperson asks the person to balance on 1 leg with their arms outwards (without the bracelet on), the salesperson then pushes with with down AND outwards force (at about a 45 degree angle, which pulls the arms to the side, thus pulling the pushing them off balance)
STEP 2) The salesperson repeats the above (now with the bracelet on), but this time they push downwards only with no side push force (easily balanced).
**The difference isn’t the bracelet, it’s the angle of input force from the scum bag salesperson.**
