John Locke was always the best part of the show for me and this was probably the scene where the show first really grabbed my attention. Not a fan with what what they did with his character later on though, it was a big waste of what they’d setup for him in the earlier seasons.
The Lost remains one of my all time favorite shows because of the dynamics between John and Jack. The music crescendo in this scene, and the entire set up – absolutely amazing. Will never not make me tear up
Excluding the fact I still think people misunderstood the ending which is why so many hated it, I think if people look back and watch it now they would have a more favourable opinion of it. LOST in a way changed the landscape of what TV could be and since then there have been so many more flops and failed series/endings.
When I was in Honolulu I went to a lot of the filming locations for Lost including this store where they filmed the travel agency. That episode is one of my top of all time.
When I originally watched this episode, I remember thinking that there was no way that Locke would be using that cheap, institutional wheel chair. He would have had one of those expensive, lightweight off road types.
I don’t know if there will ever be a show that hooked me as hard as this one. Probably The Leftovers but I watched this from 13-19 years old, it was pretty formative for me.
This is my favorite TV show of all time. And I don’t think any show will ever take its place. A true wonder, a very engrossing and emotional show, and the mystery is so well done.
There was literally no content in Lost besides the acting.
The writing was awful, the drama was soapy and pathetic, the story was nonsensical and the mysteries were embarrassing nonsense.
Alot of the actors were a tonne of fun, though. Jeremy Davies, Henry Cusick and Michael Emmerson were all amazing and almost made the show worth watching.
Everything else about the show was a disgusting sham and it should be remembered and reviled as such. It’s legacy was the era of drawn-out, pointless, serialised arcs which has culminated in the insulting 8-hour Netflix Series with 3 episodes worth of content epidemic.
Benioff, Weiss and JJ Abrams should go to bed every night thanking Jesus and that broad cast of wonderfully talented and charismatic performers to make it feel like something that worked despite the total lack of competence and effort from the showrunners.
Terry O’Quinn was phenomenal, I only ever knew him from Millenium which was a great show but seems to be long forgotten. He created one of the most memorable characters we’ve seen on TV and did so among a very large cast where for long periods he was kind of on the fringe.
One of the greatest 1st seasons of any series, until the showrunners had to tie it all together, realized they couldn’t, and filled in the holes with endless exposition and lazy angel brush-offs.
This is my favorite tv show of all time. I don’t care if it gets wonky towards the end, I loved it through and through. Re-watched several times and it still just hits like no other show.
I had to use a wheelchair for half a year, with a small chance that it would be forever. His reaction was 100% what mine was when people did things for me without asking. (The underreported secret weapon to physical therapy is blind rage.)
Another amazing scene that ties into this is when Locke asks Rose how she knows her cancer is healed, and she just said she knows. Then it flashbacks to Rose being the only one who remembers Locke being in a wheelchair at the airport.
Terry O’Quinn is a great character actor. I always love when I spot in shows or movies.
I was working in a bookstore in the mid 90s (when he was staring on Millennium and the XFiles movie) when he came in. He walked right up to me at the information deak and said, “Hi, I need a copy of Catcher In the Rye.”
“HOLY SHIT! You’re Terry O’Quinn,” I responded.
He smiled and nodded yes, “You know my name?”
We talked for a few minutes about all the movies I saw him in (The Rocketeer, SpaceCamp, Stepfather 2, Tombstone, etc).
He graciously gave me an autograph (now framed in my living room), and I was able to get our last copy of Catcher In the Rye for him.
Later, I came to find out a friend of mine’s wife was grade school friends with his daughter and spent weekend nights at their home.

Best series of all time imo.
Season 1 was art. It all went downhill after.
This scene is the most pivotal in the entire series. First time you watch this scene decides whether you’re hooked or not.
That scene gives me chills every time. Locke staring at his moving toes while spine-tingling music swells still blows my mind years later.
Season 1 of Lost is still in my top 5 tv seasons of all time.

Wow maybe I should give Lost a try

What’s the song?
Weird. Today this scene randomly popped in my head while I was driving. Now it’s here. Wtf

God damn this show was so amazing for the first two seasons.
Can someone please make a cut of lost with no flashbacks? I just want to see it from island on, zero backstory
Great show

The soundtrack of Lost is really something special.

Man, this seems like a lifetime ago
Brilliant job showing a scene that won’t mean anything to those who haven’t seen the rest of the episode which will have the needed context.
Another amazing scene that ties into this is when Locke asks Rose how she knows her cancer is healed, and she just said she knows. Then it flashbacks to Rose being the only one who remembers Locke being in a wheelchair at the airport.
Just doing my second rewatch. Watched it the first time when it aired! This scene and episode are just amazing.

Lost has the greatest score of all time and you can’t convince me otherwise. Michael Giacchino nailed it.
It blows my mind that people still defend this series knowing this episode exists and making excuses for the bullshit that was the final season.
It’s like buying a brand new car and waxing it with a belt sander.
I love the first three seasons of Lost. Never been able to finish the series though
This was one of the best episodes of modern TV. Sets the trajectory of the show with just a smirk.
Gorgeous cinematography too!

Guess its that time of the year again. Rewatching LOST, once or twice a year, has just become kind of a tradition at this point.
Man, that show is just so good.
Goddamn I wish I could watch this show for the first time all over again.
This episode and ‘The Constant’ are two of the best episodes of any show, ever, period.
