Listen to the exact moment when The Doors thought of the idea to add thunder sounds to “Riders on the Storm” for the very first time. 1970.

Did they record straight to a stereo downmix with sound effects added live? As opposed to record everything on separate tracks and figure out effects and what not later during mixing?
Manzarek, the most soulful electric pianist in the history of Rock.
Very cool snippet of R&R history. Thanks for sharing!
But when did they decide to add Snoop Dog to the mix? /s
I didn’t realize George Carlin was channeling Morrison when he did his hippy impressions.
Chills.
Magic
Morrison was so cool.
Wow. Lightning in a bottle ⚡️❤️.
I loved how it was tradition in the 1970s/1980s when radio stations could make their own playlists they would play this song whenever a summer storm came through.
It immediately takes me back to being a teenager on summer vacation stuck inside on a rainy day.
Thanks for this, that was really cool
This was my favorite song as a kid of the 80’s.
I’m guessing this wasn’t the take they used? Morrison’s vocals sound weaker here than I recall from listening to the song.
Awesome share! Thx
Amazing band.
RIP Lizard King
wow I’ve never heard his speaking voice before, very unlike his singing voice.
His voice is like honey.
They thought of it right there and they had a recording of rain and thunder ready to go in 1970?
Awesome. Thanks for putting this on here.
I love that “Wait are we sure? This is take 10. It’ll never be take 10 again.” So awesome.
I now have the urge to play Need For Speed: Underground 2
That game needs a remaster so bad
I always listen to this song on rainy days.
One of the beauties of this song is that if it’s not rainy where you are, it comes with rain
Have this on 8 track…one of my favorite bands..
I’m so high, I thought it was a video… kept waiting for someone to move.
Not a huge Doors fan but this is such a perfect song.
That pep talk. That’s great. “Are we serious?!”
Weird to think I’m 28 and Jim never was.
He achieved so much
Rock station where I live does an all request hour from 5pm to 6pm everyday. If it’s raining this is always one of the first songs requested.
Nice
That keyboard intro.. Ray gets me every time..
I got a fever and the only prescription is more thunder.
That “aha!” Moment.
Wouldn’t be the same song without it.
Fabulous. I remember driving west on Route 50 out of Ocean City Maryland at dawn, mist hanging over an open field like cotton. This song was playing on the radio… I almost blew my speakers out.
Pure magic
One of my favorite songs.
For anyone who might not know… That’s The Doors’ producer Paul Rothchild sitting between Jim & Robbie.
The song is such a banger
The whispering vocal track on this song was actually the last thing Jim Morrison recorded with The Doors I’m pretty sure
Coming from someone who used to own (literally) every LP, CD, and DVD of the Doors (in addition to shirts, books, and posters):
It’s too bad he was such an idiot when it came to drugs and alcohol. I would have really enjoyed hearing what a mature, experienced Morrison could have written.
And no, I don’t subscribe to the idea that drugs make music better. Also, yes, he could have gotten worse, theoretically. But I think it was pretty clear that he was quite talented. I don’t think that would have just ended at 28 years old.
The last song they ever recorded, if you didn’t know.
